At the opening session, delegates listened to a report summarizing the activities of the ISSAAS Association in 2025, presenting the Matsuda Prize 2025 to Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, former President of the ISSAAS Vietnam Chapter, and the Outstanding Young Scientist Award 2025 to outstanding researchers in the region.
This year's conference gathered 200 scientific reports and more than 50 posters, focusing on the following fields: Plant science, genetics and breeding, plant protection, animal husbandry - veterinary medicine, aquaculture, food technology, environmental science, agricultural mechanics, agricultural economics and policy, agricultural management, biotechnology, pedology, smart agriculture and digital transformation.
Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong shared that the conference is a place where scientists voluntarily participate, exchange knowledge, learn from each other's experiences and expand professional cooperation. "Through academic exchange activities, we can promote the image of the country, people and agriculture of Vietnam, an agriculture that is moving towards greening, low carbon emissions, contributing to the region and the world to achieve the goal of reducing global emissions," he said.

ISSAAS was established in 1994 with the aim of building a collaborative network among scientists in the field of agriculture in Southeast Asia. The main members include Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and from 2023, Cambodia. The ISSAAS conference is held annually, rotating among member countries.
In 2024, the ISSAAS 30th Anniversary Conference was held at Tokyo University of Agriculture (Japan) with the theme “ISSAAS in 2024 and beyond: Agricultural Science for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia”. Here, the ISSAAS Vietnam Chapter received the rotating flag to host the ISSAAS 2025 Conference, marking Vietnam’s increasingly prominent role in the regional agricultural science community.
The ISSAAS 2025 conference is therefore not only an opportunity for scientists to present the latest research results but also a step forward to affirm the academic position of the Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture, contributing to promoting regional cooperation in the goal of developing green, sustainable and low-emission agriculture.
