On October 25, in Hanoi , Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long attended and spoke at the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies with the theme "Vietnam: Sustainable Development in the New Era".
This event is organized by Hanoi National University in coordination with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and domestic and international partners.
Continuing the tradition of more than 25 years of the Vietnam Studies conference series – the largest academic forum on Vietnam in the world – this conference aims to summarize and share the latest research achievements on the country, people and culture of Vietnam in the context of globalization, digital transformation and sustainable development.
The workshop affirmed the position of Vietnamese studies as an interdisciplinary scientific field with great potential, contributing to consolidating the theoretical and practical foundations for the development and integration process of Vietnam in the new era.
Vietnam studies attracts many international experts and scientists.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized that each country and each nation carries within itself historical traditions, culture, customs, practices and important milestones that shape its own identity.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in order to deeply research and understand those values, over the years, the world has formed and developed famous country studies, such as Chinese studies, Japanese studies, American studies, Indian studies, German studies; or regional studies, such as European studies, Asian studies, Southeast Asian studies, and recently, Global Studies. These are scientific fields that deeply research the history, culture, countries and people of countries, ethnic groups and regions; they are bridges connecting, exchanging, strengthening solidarity, mutual understanding, business cooperation, joining hands to create and maintain a peaceful and stable environment for sustainable development.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that Vietnamese studies is an interdisciplinary social science and humanities field that comprehensively studies the country and people of Vietnam; its heroic history with a thousand-year tradition of building and defending the country; its glorious feats of arms against foreign invaders; its spirit of solidarity and ardent patriotism; its unique, rich, and diverse cultural identity; its hardworking, diligent, courageous, resilient, benevolent, hospitable, and always aspiring Vietnamese people.
During its formation and development, the field of Vietnamese studies has not only been built by generations of domestic scholars and researchers, but has also attracted many international experts and scientists. Up to now, Vietnamese studies is not only a strongly developing field in countries in the region, such as China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Russia... but has also reached far to the US, Germany, France with many research and translation works on history, society, religion, culture, literature... Many generations of Vietnamese studies experts have continuously researched and contributed, including very famous people in the world scientific community such as the late Professor Le Thanh Khoi, Professor Phan Huy Le, Russian Professor Deopik, Japanese Professor Sakurai Yumio, American Professor Alexander Woodside...

"On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, I acknowledge and sincerely thank the efforts and contributions of the team of domestic and international experts, scientists and researchers in the field of Vietnamese studies, making important contributions to the socio-economic development of Vietnam; at the same time promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam to friends around the world," the Deputy Prime Minister expressed.
"The history of the country and people of Vietnam has gone through many struggles for national independence and unification; through which, we have learned many valuable lessons. Promoting historical traditions and those lessons, after 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi process with determination and outstanding efforts, Vietnam has achieved great achievements of historical significance."
The Deputy Prime Minister said that GDP in 2025 is expected to increase by over 8%. By 2025, the economic scale will reach 510 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world; GDP per capita is estimated at about 5,000 USD, entering the upper middle-income group; Human Development Index will increase by 18 places, ranking 93/193 countries and territories; Happiness Index will rank 46th, up 37 places compared to 2020. Politics and society will be stable; national defense and security will be strengthened; social order and safety will be ensured; national independence and sovereignty will be maintained; foreign affairs and international integration will be promoted; a peaceful, stable and favorable environment for development cooperation will be maintained. Vietnam is recognized by the United Nations as one of the leading countries in implementing the Millennium Goals and is striving for the Sustainable Development Goals.
"Entering a new era of development, Vietnam is determined to achieve the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030; and by 2045, becoming a developed country with high income," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
"To achieve that goal, we focus on building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with proactive and active international integration, deeply, comprehensively, substantially and effectively." Continuing to prioritize promoting growth associated with maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring major balances of the economy.
Develop culture and society in a synchronous, harmonious manner, on par with economic and political development, with the consistent viewpoint of taking people as the center, the subject, the goal, the driving force and the most important resource of rapid and sustainable development; not sacrificing progress, social equity, social security and the environment to pursue mere economic growth.
Strengthen and enhance national defense and security, firmly protect independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Consistently implement a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development; multilateralize and diversify foreign relations, be a good friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community.

Continue to affirm the position of Vietnamese studies
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized: In the road ahead, the Vietnamese Government hopes to continue receiving the companionship, support, enthusiastic, intellectual and effective contributions of the Vietnamese studies community worldwide with opinions, proposals, strategic advice, as well as specific solutions in all fields of politics, economics, society, culture, education, science and technology, innovation and international integration.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his delight that this conference received more than 900 scientific papers from nearly 1,200 Vietnamese and foreign scientists, focusing on urgent issues arising in the practice of sustainable development and international integration of Vietnam; including many topical issues such as the arrangement of administrative units and organization of two-level local governments; private economic development; innovation and development of education, healthcare, science and technology, digital transformation; preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values...
