This student is Phan Hoang Anh Thu, an accounting and auditing student, who just received her diploma at the graduation ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics on June 1.
Present at the ceremony, Ms. Dam Thi Bich Ngoc, Anh Thu's mother, said that her daughter was a student at Long Thoi High School (Nha Be district).
When facing the threshold of graduating from high school, Anh Thu proactively chose to study at college because she understood her family's difficult economic situation.
"I saw that my father was working and my mother was self-employed, and my father was the main source of income, so I didn't want my parents to shoulder much of the cost of college," Ms. Ngoc recalled.
That year, Anh Thu was admitted to many universities such as Nong Lam University and Saigon University, both majoring in accounting. But after considering the tuition fees and conditions, she decided to choose Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, with tuition fees of about 6 million VND per semester.
Ms. Ngoc said that during nearly 2 and a half years of studying, Anh Thu persistently took the bus every day from Nha Be to the city center. "Every day she went from early morning to late at night, but she never complained. We were happy to see her taking care of herself," she said emotionally.
Sharing about her learning journey, Anh Thu said that she loves numbers so she chose accounting.
"At first I thought studying accounting was boring, but after I started studying, I found it very interesting because I got to practice a lot and work with real data. The more I studied, the more I liked it," Thu said.
Anh Thu's way of studying is to divide her time evenly: on Saturday she finishes all the exercises of the week, on Sunday she studies the theory of the new week. From Monday to Friday she studies the new lesson and reviews the old one. According to Thu, studying like this will help her learn continuously, not forget, and make sure she knows what she has learned.
With practical subjects, especially problems and data related to business reality, Thu always feels excited.
However, studying did not always go smoothly. "Some specialized subjects such as administrative accounting made me confused at first because I was more familiar with business accounting. At that time, I went on YouTube, watched videos of teachers explaining over and over again, and after about 2-3 weeks, I understood more deeply," Thu said.
Thu interned as an accountant at a company in Nha Be and especially loved being able to quickly apply what she learned into practice.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, head of the accounting and auditing department at Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, said that Anh Thu is a hard-working, obedient student who always proactively asks difficult questions in class, making the lecturer very impressed.
She remembers that in addition to studying, Thu was also a member of the class's executive committee, actively encouraging her friends to participate in Union, movement, science and volunteer activities such as Green Summer, competitions inside and outside school.
Notably, Thu won third prize in the "Talented Accounting" competition, where students compete in teams, passing multiple-choice and practical rounds, and debating directly.
Currently, Anh Thu is not in a hurry to continue her studies at university: "First of all, I want to stabilize my finances and work to gain practical experience. Then, when I have the conditions, I will continue studying."
Anh Thu added: "The starting point is not important. Whether you go to college or vocational school is fine. The important thing is to try hard every day and constantly develop."
