The attraction of Indochina
The French film Indochina (1992) is perhaps the most powerful cinematic experience to boost tourism in Vietnam's "smokeless industry". When this work was released, the number of foreign tourists, especially French tourists, visiting Ha Long Bay increased dramatically. Luxury guests also had the need to book room 208 at Ha Long 1 Hotel - where Indochina star Catherine Deneuve stayed while filming here. The Vung Oan film studio was also visited by many guests. However, after many years of changes, this film studio is now almost forgotten.

Many years after Indochina , Vietnam welcomed guests to film the blockbuster Kong: Skull Island , this time from the US. Ninh Binh appeared in the film through 3 locations: Van Long lagoon nature reserve, Tam Coc - Bich Dong and Trang An eco-tourism area. Majestic mountains, peaceful rivers and beautiful cave systems are the images that appear in the work. However, due to its connection to the Trang An world heritage site, the filming set of Kong: Skull Island (2017) with many grass huts had to be dismantled to ensure conservation commitments with UNESCO.
Besides foreign films, domestic cinema also has many works that help promote tourism. A dreamy Hue with culinary quintessence is introduced by Gai gia lam chieu . Hue also became "hotter" after Mat biec - tourists flocked to visit the lonely tree, Do Do school through photo tours, check-in photos. However, this trend is no longer there. Hue still continues to attract visitors to tourist attractions, with many photo tours; but most of them are tours related to mausoleums...
Meanwhile, Phu Yen tourism is associated with the promotion of I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass . "Until now, tourism units still include yellow flowers and green grass in their products," expert Nguyen Tien Dat assessed. However, according to Mr. Dat, the interesting thing about Phu Yen is that there are other more attractive things. "I went to the filming location of I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass , it was wide and not as beautiful as in the movie, not as attractive as in the movie," Mr. Dat said and added: "Blockbuster movies will help attract many foreign visitors while Vietnamese movies will help attract domestic tourists. I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass attracts visitors to Phu Yen. Southern Forest Land attracts people to Tra Su Melaleuca Forest...".

Long-term strategy and local sensitivity are needed.
After a film is completed and if it is successfully released, the set can be retained and used for tourism. However, this opportunity does not seem to be given due attention.
Most recently, the makers of Red Rain , a film about the ancient citadel of Quang Tri, were unable to return the film set to the locality. This is also a story that has attracted heated discussions on social networks. Accordingly, there are opinions that maintaining the film set will be difficult due to the special stormy weather conditions in the ancient citadel.
There are also opinions that even if the real Quang Tri citadel is still there, the public may not like to visit the "set". However, when Red Rain has become a historical milestone for the war film genre, the story of making the film is also a part of the story of the relic. Therefore, it is entirely possible to think about turning the story of Red Rain 's journey into a content in the old battlefield tour. For example, why not think about making a short film about the behind-the-scenes of Red Rain to introduce here, or design games to experience the music in the film, which is causing strong emotions for the public? Red Rain was not born to promote tourism, but if those working in culture and tourism take advantage of the opportunity, it will bring a very positive impact.
The Love in Vietnam project in cooperation with India is expected to help promote Vietnamese tourism.

According to expert Nguyen Tien Dat, he highly appreciates the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's strategy to attract international film crews to Vietnam. "The Ministry has activities to promote and introduce film destinations to the US market and Hollywood. From the issue of cooperation, there may be films written for the context in Vietnam. That also takes time and cannot happen immediately, it may take a few years to have sweet results. But first, that is our proactive step," said Mr. Dat.
This expert pointed out that the film Kong: Skull Island itself was also proactively invited by the Chua me dat (Oxalis Adventure) Company to Vietnam. In fact, in Tan Hoa (Quang Tri) - the setting of Kong: Skull Island , in 2023, Oxalis Adventure opened an adventure tour "Exploring Kong's home by 4-wheel off-road motorbike". Thus, having a specific product after the film is very important. Kong: Skull Island was filmed in 2016, and until 7 years later, a tour rich in new attractions from its effects is still organized. Obviously, here, the vision and agility of tourism workers as well as local people are extremely necessary.
