Prepare a plan to ensure supply
At the end of the year, the demand for pork in the market often increases dramatically as people prepare for family meals, New Year's Eve and Lunar New Year. To proactively manage the supply, livestock enterprises and distribution systems have proactively developed reserve plans early, while strengthening links with large-scale farms to ensure stable supply during the peak shopping season.

A reporter's survey shows that the domestic pig price in recent days has been stable at a low level, fluctuating between 46,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, with only 2 localities maintaining a high level of 50,000 VND/kg: Dong Nai and Ca Mau .
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the amount of pork consumed this year is estimated at about 4 million tons. During the Tet months alone, demand increased by 10-15%. Meanwhile, storm Ragasa and storm No. 10 Bualoi caused more than 8,000 billion VND in damage, sweeping away more than 400,000 poultry and more than 1,600 cattle. From the beginning of the year to October, the total livestock damage exceeded about 1.1 million.
In the third quarter of 2025, the domestic meat market also weakened significantly. Storms, floods and African swine fever have damaged many farms, causing losses of pigs prepared for Tet. Currently, pig production in small-scale farms has decreased to 35-40%, while pig production in large-scale farms and farms has reached 60-65%.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also forecasts that consumption demand will increase even more at the end of the year, especially during the 2026 Lunar New Year. At the same time, it warns that supply will be under great pressure from input costs, especially raw materials for animal feed production.
In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that businesses and livestock households develop detailed supply plans to avoid local shortages. The Ministry also recommends that large-scale corporations and farms increase their herds and supplement large meat supplies before and after Tet. In addition to domestic supplies, imported meat sources have also increased sharply to meet the supply during the peak Tet season.
According to the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, the total pig herd in this locality is currently about 4.5 million, which is currently high compared to actual demand. Previously, businesses and households raising pigs in Dong Nai have also prepared plans to restore pig herds to serve consumption needs before and during the 2026 Tet holiday. In addition, imported supplies are always available. When domestic pork prices increase, the amount of imported pork will be increased.
Commitment to price stabilization
Speaking to a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Le Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (Vissan), said that to ensure the supply of pork at the end of the year, the company has prepared a budget of 530 billion, an increase of 8% over the same period last year.
Of which, Vissan will prepare a supply of 850 tons of fresh pork, an increase of 8%; and 3,500 tons of processed food, an increase of 6% over the same period last year. According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, with this preparation, Vissan believes it will be able to meet the supply for consumers for the Lunar New Year 2026.
In addition, for fresh pork, Vissan also prepared a reserve of 1,000 tons of frozen meat of all kinds with packaging from 0.5 - 1kg, ready to release in case of market fluctuations. This source of goods will be used for processing if the market is stable at the end of the year.
Vissan's general director added that the company is currently purchasing live pigs at around VND52,000/kg. It is expected that from now until near Tet, when demand increases, the price of live pigs may reach up to VND60,000/kg due to a shortage of supply.
“ From the fourth quarter of 2025, especially in late October and early November 2025, consecutive storms and floods occurred in the North and Central regions, causing a shortage of supply. In addition, the epidemic in the second and third quarters also had an impact, causing a serious decrease in supply ,” said Mr. Tuan.
However, the representative of this enterprise also affirmed that from now until the Year of the Horse 2026, Vissan will ensure price stability in the market. Specifically, for fresh pork, Vissan commits to comply with the city's price stabilization program.
“ Unless the price of live pigs fluctuates by more than 10%, we will ask for permission from the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Finance to adjust according to the instructions. For processed food products, we commit that from now until the Lunar New Year 2026, there will be no price changes ,” Mr. Le Anh Tuan affirmed.
To ensure market stability, management agencies have also planned to strengthen inspection and control of transportation and trading of livestock products, prevent goods of unknown origin and poor quality, and help the market at the end of the year not experience a local price "fever". With early and thorough preparation, the supply of pork at the end of the year is expected to remain stable, well meeting the consumption needs of the people.
