In response to the 2024 International Day for the Prevention and Control of Diseases, with the message "Together we fulfill our commitments in pandemic prevention and control; together we act more strongly to prevent and control future pandemics," the Ministry of Health calls on all citizens to raise their awareness of personal disease prevention and proactively protect their own health, the health of their families, and society.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong delivered a speech at the conference.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong delivered a speech at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong requested that all levels and sectors continue to coordinate with the health sector, mobilizing the participation of political organizations, associations, social communities, and international partners in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. This activity aims to proactively prevent diseases early and from afar, limit the spread and outbreaks of epidemics, ensure social welfare, and contribute to promoting economic development.

The Deputy Minister of Health stated that, with diverse modes and forms of transmission and constantly changing pathogens, infectious diseases in general are always unpredictable and difficult to forecast.

In 2024, outbreaks of diseases such as mutilation, cholera, polio, and Marburg continued to occur in many countries and regions around the world, serving as a warning that infectious diseases remain a constant threat to all nations.

In Vietnam, in 2024, the situation of infectious diseases nationwide was basically under control. The prevalence of infectious diseases such as dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, and malaria decreased significantly compared to 2023; no cases of dangerous Group A diseases (Ebola, MERS-CoV, influenza A/H7N9) were recorded entering Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam - Deputy Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, provided information at the conference.

Following Typhoon Yagi, infectious diseases were well controlled, preventing major outbreaks. Nevertheless, in 2024, the number of cases of some infectious diseases increased, such as measles, whooping cough, and rabies. Some diseases, such as dengue fever and diphtheria, also saw localized increases in certain areas.

The Ministry of Health requests that the People's Committees of provinces and cities pay attention to and proactively implement the plan for preventing and controlling infectious diseases in 2025 effectively. Localities should improve their capacity in preventive medicine, forecasting, monitoring, and early detection of diseases, and promptly and effectively control outbreaks and public health emergencies.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Health recommends that people raise their awareness and proactively take personal preventive measures, regularly wash their hands with soap and antibacterial hand sanitizer, maintain a balanced diet, and adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent and avoid infectious diseases.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam, Deputy Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, emphasized that to ensure effective epidemic prevention and control, units and localities need to promptly develop plans to allocate epidemic prevention funds to facilities under the Ministry of Health.

The units being reviewed ensure the provision of logistics, funding, medicines, vaccines, supplies, equipment, and medical biological products, guaranteeing national and local reserves for epidemic prevention and control as prescribed.

The Ministry of Health urges people to raise awareness and proactively take personal preventive measures, regularly wash hands with soap and antibacterial hand sanitizer, maintain a balanced diet, and adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent and avoid infectious diseases.

With the mission of contributing to a healthier Vietnam, the Conference summarizing the work on infectious disease prevention and control in 2024 and the plan for infectious disease prevention and control in 2025, in response to the International Day for Disease Prevention and Control 2024, was jointly organized by Unilever Vietnam International Co., Ltd. and the Lifebuoy brand.
