On the morning of November 25, host Thailand held a conference with representatives of countries participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Bangkok to make final decisions before the Games begin.
The conference is the time for 11 countries to confirm the list of participants, review in detail the contents and the final competition program proposed by the Organizing Committee. Representatives of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Department of Sports and Physical Training were present at the conference.
However, the most concerning thing for many countries, especially Vietnam, is the information about the severe flooding situation in Songkhla - the venue for 8 competitions, including men's football. Notably, Tinsulanon Stadium - the venue for the matches of Group B - was also heavily flooded.
Delegations attending the Conference want to hear detailed information and forecasts from the host country. And whether Thailand will have to change the competition venue if the weather and flooding situation here does not improve in the coming days.
This is because men's football is the earliest competition at SEA Games 33. And the first match of Group B will take place between the U22 Vietnam team and Laos on December 4 at Tinsulanon Stadium.
Currently, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam U22 team are still waiting for new information from the Vietnam Olympic Committee even though they are close to leaving for Thailand on December 1.
The U22 Vietnam team is currently training in Ba Ria in the final preparation phase. But everything seems quite passive for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team in the preparation work, especially the logistics after the competition venue was changed once from Chiangmai to Songkhla.
The VFF advance team, which was scheduled to go to Songkhla on November 30 to update the accommodation, travel and training situation of the Vietnam U22 team, had to wait for information from the Vietnam Olympic Committee.
Vietnamese media is also worried.
Not only coach Kim Sang Sik and his team are waiting to see if the competition venue will be changed, Vietnamese media who will go to Thailand early to cover football are also worried.
Because the plane ticket from Bangkok to Songkhla has been purchased, the hotel has also been booked. If the Thai host changes the destination to another place, the plane ticket (bought cheap) and hotel (deducted) will be considered lost.
