Next, President Luong Cuong and President Emmanuel Macron introduced the members of the high-ranking delegations of the two countries attending the welcoming ceremony.

This is the fifth visit of the French President to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973, and also the first visit to Vietnam by President Emmanuel Macron since taking office.
The visit takes place in the context of the continued positive development of Vietnam-France relations. Since the two countries officially established diplomatic relations more than 50 years ago, they have marked many milestones on the path of mutual development. The two countries upgraded their relations to Strategic Partnership in 2013 and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024, making France the first country in the European Union (EU) to have the highest level of relations with Vietnam.
The visit demonstrates France's appreciation for the role, position and relationship with Vietnam, an important partner of France in the Southeast Asian region and in the overall Indo-Pacific strategy. Vietnam's welcoming of the French President and his wife on a State visit is an active step in implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress on independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations.
This is also an important milestone in the bilateral relationship, contributing to the continued effective implementation of the results of the official visit to France by General Secretary and President To Lam in October 2024. The visit is an opportunity for Vietnam and France to further promote cooperation in traditional areas such as trade, investment, and tourism; while expanding to areas in line with Vietnam's development goals such as nuclear energy, science, technology, and artificial intelligence.
After the welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong and President Emmanuel Macron led high-ranking delegations from both countries to hold talks, assessing the results of cooperation between the two countries in recent times and proposing future cooperation directions. The two leaders will also witness the signing of cooperation documents and meet the press./.
