President to visit China to attend Belt and Road Forum

(Dan Tri) -President Vo Van Thuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the third "Belt and Road" Forum in Beijing, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

At the invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, President Vo Van Thuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing (China), according to a statement released on the evening of October 12 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

President Vo Van Thuong's working trip took place from October 17 to 20.

The "Belt and Road" initiative was first raised by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Central Asia (September 2013) and Southeast Asia (October 2013).

In terms of geographical scope, the Belt and Road Initiative stretches from Asia to Europe and may extend to Africa and Latin America. The two main components are the Silk Road Economic Belt (on land) and the 11th Century Maritime Silk Road.

On November 12, 2017, on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam and attendance at the APEC Summit Week, Vietnam and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on promoting connectivity between the "Two Corridors, One Belt" framework and the "Belt and Road" initiative.

The two sides are continuing to discuss the contents to concretize this Memorandum of Understanding.

Regarding bilateral relations, in recent times, Vietnam-China relations have generally maintained a development trend and achieved many positive results, especially after the official visit to China by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong (October 30 - November 1, 2022).

Since the beginning of 2023, senior leaders of the two sides have maintained regular exchanges. In particular, the General Secretaries of the two Parties exchanged congratulatory letters on the occasion of the Year of the Cat 2023, exchanged high-level congratulatory messages on the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries; Chinese President Xi Jinping (March 2) sent a congratulatory message to President Vo Van Thuong on his inauguration...

Most recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid an official visit to China and attended the 14th Annual Pioneers Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Tianjin, China from June 25 to 28. Afterwards, the head of the Vietnamese Government also attended the 20th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi, China (September 16-19).
