According to VNA special correspondent, within the framework of his official visit to Senegal, on the afternoon of July 23 (local time), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the Presidential Palace.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed his joy and appreciation for the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Senegal.

The President affirmed that the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Senegal since the two countries established diplomatic relations is an important milestone in further promoting the good relationship between Vietnam and Senegal.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said that 2025 is very important for Senegal in implementing the Senegal Vision 2050 strategy, thereby hoping that Vietnamese enterprises will actively participate in Senegal's economic development, especially in the field of digital transformation. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye suggested that Vietnam soon consider opening a diplomatic representative office in the capital Dakar.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure to represent the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to visit Senegal; and thanked the President and senior leaders of Senegal for the warm and respectful reception given to the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Appreciating Senegal's strategic position in Africa, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam wishes to promote multifaceted cooperation with Senegal, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, agriculture, telecommunications, science and technology, etc. and informed that a number of prestigious Vietnamese corporations are looking forward to exploring investment and business cooperation opportunities in Senegal in these fields. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the two governments continue to perfect the legal framework to support cooperation activities, and in the immediate future, accelerate the negotiation process of fundamental agreements such as the Investment Protection Agreement and the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also informed about the results of his talks with Senegalese National Assembly Chairman Malick Ndiaye and his meeting with Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, agreeing on a number of major orientations to expand cooperation between the two States, Governments and two National Assemblies.

Regarding the proposal to open a Vietnamese diplomatic representative office in Senegal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said he would transfer information to the Vietnamese Government for specific research, suggesting that in the immediate future, the two sides could appoint Honorary Consuls in each country to act as a bridge to promote cooperation in economics, trade and investment, and expressed his wish that localities of the two countries would increase connection and exchange activities to strengthen the sincere and friendly feelings between the two countries and peoples./.
