In order to achieve good results in inheriting, preserving and developing traditional medicine, the Department of Health advises the Provincial People's Committee to issue plans to implement this task. The health sector continues to increase investment and improve the quality of medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine for grassroots health care; building and implementing plans to develop traditional medicine, especially rare medicinal plants and animals.
Increase budget investment in the cultivation of medicinal plants and animals, and the processing of medicinal materials; implement specific tasks in the preservation and development of oriental medicine. Promote research and inheritance of good remedies and highly effective treatment experiences, and apply modern scientific achievements to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of traditional medicine.
Communication work on the position and role of Traditional Medicine is carried out in many diverse and effective forms. Cooperating with the Provincial Association of Traditional Medicine to research, collect, inherit and apply traditional medicine prescriptions and methods in medical examination and treatment, especially prescriptions and methods that can effectively treat or support the treatment of diseases that medicine is facing difficulties with. At the same time, disseminating knowledge on prevention and treatment of some common diseases to the people; mobilizing households to grow and use medicinal plants to prevent and treat common diseases at home...
With many positive solutions, up to now, the province has 1 traditional medicine that has been granted a certificate (sâm cau in community health care). Collected about 100 folk remedies to treat common diseases: bones and joints, nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis, snake bites, broken bones, diabetes treatment, blood pressure, blood fat...; about 150 experimental remedies and 15 folk remedies such as: blowing in the treatment of broken bones, treatment of cirrhosis with ascites, nephrotic syndrome with fatty liver, reducing blood fat, hearing loss due to kidney failure...
Coordination in state management of medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine, the system of medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine in the province is consolidated and developed through each stage. Units with medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine are gradually being invested in facilities and equipment to serve better diagnosis and treatment.
Currently, the provincial level has 1 hospital specializing in traditional medicine and rehabilitation (PHCN), 3 general hospitals, of which 1 hospital has a separate department of traditional medicine. The district level has 8/10 medical centers with departments of traditional medicine and rehabilitation. District medical centers have integrated examination and treatment using traditional medicine with rehabilitation - physical therapy, and at the same time effectively implemented a number of basic techniques, meeting the needs of patients coming to the unit for treatment.
The province currently has 86 doctors, 150 physicians, 104 traditional medicine practitioners and 1 person practicing traditional medicine. With their positive contributions to the examination and treatment of people using traditional medicine, in the past 10 years, 3 members of the Oriental Medicine Association have been awarded the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Award; 6 members have been awarded the title of outstanding traditional medicine practitioner nationwide; the Department of Health awarded certificates of merit to 4 groups and 4 individuals of the Oriental Medicine Association in 2024.
In addition to the achieved results, the work of inheriting, preserving and developing traditional medicine in the province still has some shortcomings such as some units are not active in developing members and branches, many hospital branches and commune health stations operate in a formal manner. The infrastructure of some units has degraded; machinery and equipment have not met the needs of developing and expanding technical services of the units and meeting the criteria for facilities in the Hospital Quality Criteria. Scientific research and production of traditional medicine in the locality are still limited. Cultivation of medicinal herbs in the province is still small-scale, so the medicinal herbs are not diverse.
To improve the quality of examination and treatment using traditional medicine, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation, Director of the Department of Health Do Van Hung has made recommendations and proposals to the Ministry of Health and the province to pay attention to building new criteria for traditional medicine clinics and traditional medicine specialized clinics to participate in medical examination and treatment, and health insurance payment.
Unify the model of traditional medicine association activities nationwide in terms of organization, human resources, and operating budget of provincial associations, district associations, traditional medicine associations of communes, wards, and towns. Unify the training codes for traditional medicine practitioners and pharmacists. Pay attention to, direct, and invest in, repair facilities, and purchase appropriate traditional medicine equipment for units; at the same time, strengthen training and coaching for medical staff to improve professional qualifications and provide financial support for traditional medicine associations at all levels.
