Timely support for people in border areas
In Hung Son commune, after a period of water seepage, many areas are at risk of serious landslides. Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Vinh, Head of Ga Ry Border Guard Station (City Border Guard), said that when there are signs of landslides, the border guards coordinate with local authorities to help people evacuate to a safe place.
On the morning of November 13, the station mobilized 20 officers and soldiers to coordinate with local authorities to evacuate 4 households, 15 people in Da Ding village, an area with wet, water-soaked ground and constant landslides. The evacuation was carried out urgently, bringing people to the residential land in front, about 10-20m away from the old house, ensuring the safety of people and property.
Officers and soldiers also helped people to support their roofs, clear rocks and provide essential necessities. “The unit has assigned 10 officers to be on duty in the area, regularly monitor, report and be ready to support immediately if a bad situation occurs. After the evacuation, we will support a sum of money to help people stabilize their lives,” Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Vinh shared.
The border guard station considers mass mobilization work as a key task. Every officer and soldier is imbued with the spirit of overcoming difficulties with the people, always proactive, flexible, and ready to go to the field when there are signs of danger. Not only the border guard force, the spirit of mass mobilization and solidarity with the people is also strongly spread from localities, businesses, organizations and unions in Da Nang .
Recently, a working delegation of the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and businesses of An Hai ward directly visited and presented gifts to support people of Tra Linh commune, a locality that suffered heavy damage after storm No. 11.
At the program, the delegation presented 350 gifts (each worth 1 million VND), including warm blankets, warm clothes, rice, and many other essential necessities to disadvantaged households. In addition, the delegation also donated 150 300W solar floodlights and many additional foods to serve students and villages lacking electricity for lighting.
Mr. Duong Thanh Ha, Vice Chairman of An Hai Ward People's Committee, said that Tra Linh commune is a sister commune of An Hai ward. The close relationship and sharing between the two localities has been further nurtured in difficult times.
“When the call for support was received, the local people, businesses and armed forces of the ward joined hands to contribute. Although the road was very difficult, with more than 40 landslides, the group still tried to overcome the distance of more than 7 hours continuously to reach the people of Tra Linh. Everyone wanted to contribute a small part to share the difficulties with the people,” said Mr. Ha.
Joint efforts of the entire political system
According to the Da Nang City Relief Committee, after the recent floods, the city called for widespread support from organizations, businesses and people. From October 29 to November 12, the total amount of relief goods received was nearly 309 tons with a total value of about VND 8.6 billion, of which nearly 266 tons were distributed to affected localities.
In addition to domestic resources, the city also received aid from the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). The total amount of aid goods included 3,648 household essential kits, 1,999 kitchenware sets and 3,000 personal hygiene kits, with a total estimated value of more than 264,000 USD.
As of 4 p.m. on November 12, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city received more than 90 billion VND donated by agencies, businesses and individuals to help people overcome the effects of natural disasters. Relief trucks crossing dangerous mountain passes, green-shirted shoulders carrying bags of rice and boxes of goods to villages... are vivid evidence of the spirit of "skillful mass mobilization" being spread.
From the strong direction of the Party Committee and government to the sharing of the people, all create the strength of solidarity, helping people in border and highland areas to firmly overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives after natural disasters.
