Experts: 'Digital transformation' isn't over yet, 'AI transformation' has arrived.

Experts believe that while many organizations have yet to complete their digital transformation, the wave of AI transformation has arrived at an even faster pace.

On October 27th, the University of Economics and Law (UEL) organized a seminar titled "From Digital Transformation to AI Transformation: A Model of Collaboration between Universities and Businesses" and a workshop titled "Applying AI to Human Resource Managers," attracting many domestic and international experts.

Dr. Le Hoanh Su - Head of the Information Systems Department, University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) - stated: "Digital transformation is the first step, but AI transformation is the real leap forward."

While digital transformation helps organizations operate more efficiently, AI transformation requires a different approach, enabling systems to learn, self-regulate, and make decisions.

In Vietnam, Dr. Le Hoanh Su argues that many organizations are still in the process of digital transformation, and now they are facing the rapidly ongoing AI transformation.

Beyond its applications in operations, management, and research, AI also plays a crucial role in education. In a university environment, AI transformation will be impossible if students do not learn to understand and embrace the technology.

"AI is not just a new skill, but a new language of learning and working," emphasized Dr. Le Hoanh Su.

Furthermore, he emphasized the difference between "training" and "coaching" AI in a university setting. Training is about teaching how to do something; coaching is about helping people change their way of thinking.

In a constantly evolving AI environment, only coaching, learning through experience and feedback, can help learners develop problem-solving, creativity, and adaptability.

From an international perspective, Daryl Chung, Business Director of JDI Group, Singapore, added a warning: "The biggest threat is not AI replacing humans, but humans becoming obsolete if they don't learn quickly enough."

According to him, education is at the forefront of AI transformation. In Singapore, instead of teaching individual courses, the government has implemented an "AI for Everyone" model, popularizing AI skills among students, businesses, and workers.

In just a few years, over 95% of businesses here have digitized, and nearly 15% have started applying AI to their operations.

"What makes AI successful in Singapore is not the equipment, but the mindset," he said.

For students, it is crucial to have digital fluency coupled with critical thinking, collaboration, and flexibility.

For working professionals, the direction of development lies not in "automating to reduce manpower," but in "enhancing human capabilities," learning how to work with AI to make smarter decisions.

Professor Ki Ryong Kwon from Pukyong University (South Korea) suggested that universities should incorporate practical AI projects into their teaching so that students understand the entire process from data to application.

"We must teach students not just to learn AI, but to be able to do AI. That's how we transform knowledge into social value," said Professor Ki Ryong Kwon.

AI is creating many revolutions in training.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Phong, Head of the Finance and Banking Department, University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), believes that AI is creating a revolution in the financial industry.

He and his research team used data from more than 650 listed companies in Vietnam to train a machine learning model to detect financial reporting fraud.

The results show that artificial neural networks (ANN) and XGBoost achieve nearly 98% accuracy, opening up possibilities for AI applications in auditing, risk management, and market transparency.

But importantly, he believes, students should be taught to view AI as a method of thinking and decision-making, not just a programming tool.

Mr. Phong proposed developing a series of modules on "fraud analysis in the financial sector," where finance students would learn how to read data, understand algorithms, and attach ethical responsibility to technology.

According to him, finance students today need to be equipped with the ability to read and understand data-driven reports and analyze them using AI tools. Because while AI can detect errors, only humans can explain the reasons behind those errors.
