Expert: 'Digital transformation' is not over, 'AI transformation' has arrived

Experts say that while many organizations have yet to complete the digital transformation process, the AI transformation wave has 'rushed' at an even faster pace.

On October 27, the University of Economics and Law (UEL) organized a seminar "From digital transformation to AI transformation: A cooperation model between schools and businesses" and a workshop "Application of AI for human resource managers", attracting many domestic and foreign experts to attend.

Dr. Le Hoanh Su - Head of the Department of Information Systems, University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said: "Digital transformation is the first step, but AI transformation is the real leap forward."

If digital transformation helps organizations operate more efficiently, AI transformation requires another step forward, so that systems can learn, self-adjust, and make decisions.

In Vietnam, Dr. Le Hoanh Su said that many units are still in the process of digital transformation, but now have to face the AI transformation that is continuing extremely rapidly.

In addition to the application of AI in operations, management and research, there is also training. In the university environment, AI transformation will not happen if students do not learn to understand and accompany the technology.

"AI does not stop at a new type of skill, but is a new language of learning and working," Dr. Le Hoanh Su emphasized.

He also emphasized the difference between “training” and “coaching” AI in a university setting. Training is teaching how to do something; coaching is helping people change the way they think.

In a constantly evolving AI environment, only coaching, learning through experience and feedback, can help learners develop problem-solving, creativity and adaptability.

From an international perspective, Mr. Daryl Chung - Business Director of JDI Group, Singapore - added a warning: "The biggest threat is not that AI replaces humans, but that humans become obsolete if they do not learn in time."

According to him, education is at the forefront of AI transformation. In Singapore, instead of teaching individual courses, the government is implementing the "AI for Everyone" model, popularizing AI skills for students, businesses and workers.

After just a few years, more than 95% of businesses here have digitized and nearly 15% have started applying AI to their operations.

“What makes AI successful in Singapore is not the equipment, but the mindset,” he said.

For students, digital fluency is important along with the ability to think critically, collaborate, and be flexible.

For working people, the direction of development is not "automation to reduce human resources", but "human capacity enhancement", learning how to work with AI to make smarter decisions.

Professor Ki Ryong Kwon from Pukyong University (South Korea) suggested that universities need to incorporate practical AI projects into their teaching so that students can understand the entire process from data to application.

"We must teach students not only to learn AI, but to do AI. That is the way to turn knowledge into social value," said Professor Ki Ryong Kwon.

AI creates many revolutions in training

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Phong, Head of the Faculty of Finance and Banking, University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that AI is creating a revolution in the financial industry.

He and his research team used data from more than 650 listed companies in Vietnam to train a machine learning model to detect financial reporting fraud.

The results show that the artificial neural network (ANN) and XGBoost achieve an accuracy of nearly 98%, opening up the possibility of applying AI in auditing, risk management and market transparency.

But the important thing, he said, is to teach students to see AI as a decision-making thinking method, not just a programming tool.

Mr. Phong proposed building a series of courses on "fraud analysis in finance", where finance students learn how to read data, understand algorithms and attach ethical responsibility to technology.

According to him, today's finance students need to be equipped with the ability to read and understand reports using data and analyze them using AI tools. Because although AI can detect errors, only humans can explain the reasons behind those errors.
