Proposal to adjust and expand Danang University Urban Area to 558 hectares

DNO - On the morning of October 28, at a working session between the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training and the leaders of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, they agreed to propose the Government to adjust the planning of the Da Nang University Urban Area from 300 hectares to 558 hectares.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Le Tan Dung and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Tran Nam Hung chaired the meeting.

All opinions affirmed that the proposal is consistent with the direction of higher education development and the goal of building Da Nang into a national center of knowledge, science, and technology .

According to the report of the Da Nang City People's Committee at the working session, the adjustment of the planning is identified as a necessary step to meet the requirements of higher education development in the new context, in line with the central government's policy and the orientation of building Da Nang into a national center of knowledge, science and technology.

The new plan anticipates expanding the Da Nang University Urban Area to approximately 558 hectares (compared to the 300 hectares approved in Decision No. 986/QD-TTg dated July 9, 2020, by the Prime Minister), directly linking it with the southern innovation zone of the city, creating a foundation for the formation of an ecosystem for research, entrepreneurship, and high-quality human resource training.

The total investment capital for the period 2026-2030 is expected to exceed 14,200 billion VND, from the state budget and socialized sources.

Upon completion, the Da Nang University Urban Area will become a new symbol of higher education in Central Vietnam, contributing to the realization of the vision of building Da Nang into an innovative and sustainably developed city by 2030.

The University of Da Nang aims to be among the top 150 universities in Asia, with at least one subject group ranking in the top 100 universities worldwide; to create 50 startup businesses annually and attract at least $50 million for research and technology.

These are the tasks assigned according to the Central Committee's conclusions on the development of science and technology and innovation.

At the meeting, Da Nang University proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training and the People's Committee of Da Nang City agree on a comprehensive plan for adjusting the overall planning, and submit it to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval; at the same time, they requested consideration of decentralizing the authority to approve planning adjustments to the city to ensure proactiveness and flexibility.

The University of Da Nang has proposed that the city support land clearance, allocate land for resettlement, and prepare the necessary infrastructure for implementation during the 2026-2030 period.

Leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training affirmed that they will coordinate with relevant agencies to complete the dossier and report to the Prime Minister for approval of the policy to adjust the planning.

The Ministry requests that the People's Committee of Da Nang City and Da Nang University continue to cooperate, ensuring the progress and quality of the project, meeting the requirements for the development of higher education and the demand for high-quality human resources in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung emphasized that the city government is committed to supporting and creating favorable conditions for the project to be implemented soon; especially in land clearance, resettlement arrangements, and mobilizing resources for infrastructure investment.

The People's Committee of Da Nang City has instructed relevant departments and agencies to closely coordinate with Da Nang University to develop a detailed plan, ensure the rights of people in the project area, and promptly complete the procedures according to regulations.

According to the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, adjusting the planning of the Da Nang University Urban Area is a strategic task, contributing to the construction of a modern, innovative university urban space, playing a driving role in promoting the goal of developing Da Nang into a smart city and a national center for education, science, and technology in the new phase.
