Infrastructure changes in Cho Don commune as a result of Program 1719.

Over the past period, the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas (Program 1719) implemented in Cho Don commune has left a clear mark. Particularly noteworthy is the focus on investing in essential infrastructure systems that directly serve production and improve the lives of the people.

From July 2025, Cho Don commune was established by merging Phuong Vien, Bang Lang, Ngoc Phai communes and Bang Lung town. The commune covers an area of over 142 square kilometers and has a population of over 16,000 people, of which ethnic minorities account for approximately 88%. The large geographical area and dispersed population make transportation and irrigation conditions particularly important for the development of agricultural production and the stability of people's lives.

Based on that reality, the locality identified Project 4 - investing in essential infrastructure serving production and daily life - as a key focus in the implementation of Program 1719 for the period 2021-2030. Specifically for 2025, the total resources for implementing the Program in the commune will reach over 15 billion VND, of which Project 4 will be allocated nearly 12 billion VND.

Using these funds, the commune implemented 22 projects, including rural roads, irrigation canals, dams, embankments to prevent landslides, and village cultural houses.

On the newly concreted Na Khat - Na Mo rural road, we met Mr. Hoang Van Lam, 58 years old, from Na Khat village, transporting rice from the field to his home. He shared that previously, the dirt road was narrow and bumpy, requiring many people to carry the rice during each harvest. Now, vehicles can access the fields, transporting the harvested rice directly home, significantly reducing effort and time.

The road, with a total investment of nearly 700 million VND from Program 1719 funds and scheduled for completion in July 2025, is one of the exemplary projects directly serving agricultural production in the area.

Along with transportation routes, many other projects have also been completed and put into use, yielding practical results such as: the Na Dan erosion control embankment (Tum To village), the reinforcement of irrigation canals in the Na Khoang - Na Pe fields, and the system of dams and irrigation canals in the fields of Ban Duong, Ban Nhi, and Na Nieng villages. These projects contribute to ensuring stable irrigation and drainage, while also facilitating the transportation of materials and agricultural products.

In addition to focusing on investing in transportation and irrigation infrastructure, Cho Don commune has also implemented a sub-project for sustainable agricultural and forestry economic development with a budget of over 545 million VND, supporting households in managing and protecting more than 102 hectares of forest. The policy of providing decentralized water supply to 15 households with a total budget of 45 million VND has also contributed to improving living conditions in disadvantaged villages.

Vice Chairman of Cho Don Commune People's Committee Hoang Thi Phuong Dung: The infrastructure system has been gradually upgraded and improved, contributing to raising the living standards of the people, especially ethnic minorities. In the coming time, the commune will continue to accelerate the progress of the remaining projects, while effectively integrating resources from other programs and projects to maximize investment efficiency.

In reality, although some projects are still under construction due to weather and terrain conditions, with a series of projects expected to be completed by the end of 2025, Program 1719 in Cho Don commune is being implemented in the right direction and achieving clear results.

New concrete roads facilitate travel and transportation; reinforced canals ensure water supply for production; and landslide prevention and control projects contribute to protecting people's land and homes.

All of this not only transformed the rural landscape after the merger but also created an important foundation for Cho Don commune to develop agricultural production, gradually increasing income and stabilizing the lives of ethnic minority people. This is vivid evidence of the effectiveness of Program 1719 in the area.
