Foreign expert: "AMACCAO's capacity is on par with international partners"

In August 2020, after passing the rigorous evaluation and selection process of the investor and general contractor, Chau Au Nam Concrete Structure Joint Stock Company (AMACCAO) was selected as the sole contractor to produce and supply precast tunnel lining panels (segments) for 4km of tunnels on the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station Metro Line, from station S9 (Kim Ma) to station S12 (Hanoi Railway Station).

According to the business representative, the event marked an important milestone, affirming the capacity and position of AMACCAO Group in general, and Chau Au Nam Company in particular, in the role of supplying construction materials for a project of special significance to the capital Hanoi as well as to the country.

International standard capacity conquers difficult general contractors

Hyundai - Ghella (HGU) joint venture is the contractor for package CP03 of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro project. These are two leading names in the field of urban transport infrastructure construction, especially underground metro projects.

Both Hyundai and Ghella have extensive international experience, having participated in the construction of many metro lines in developed countries such as Italy, France, Latin American countries, Indonesia, and recently projects in the US and Canada. The HGU joint venture is also known for its strict technical standards and stringent requirements in all stages from construction materials to quality control.

Mr. Salvatore La Valle - Head of TBM Engineering Team, HGU representative said that the metro tunnel is designed to last at least 100 years, therefore, every small detail in the tunnel lining is important. In particular, the tunnel segments are the key components of this project, with the task of bearing the load for the entire tunnel and ensuring safe tunnel excavation.

He affirmed that the lifespan of tunnel lining panels depends on precise design, high-quality materials and strict quality control. This has caused the general contractor to face many difficulties in choosing a supplier of precast tunnel lining panels due to the very strict technical requirements, based on European and international evaluation standards, while there are few units in Vietnam that can ensure the proposed quality and technical criteria.

"One of the reasons we chose AMACCAO was their commitment to product quality. AMACCAO has invested in a modern automated production system to ensure high precision for tunnel lining panels. They are also willing to invest in factories, invest in production lines, accept quick delivery and maintain good material quality and production standards," said Mr. Salvatore La Valle.

As a supervisory consultant for the Hanoi Metro project, Mr. Ivan Conihan - representative of SYSTRA, was impressed with AMACCAO's professional working spirit, open-mindedness, continuous learning and willingness to invest in technology.

"AMACCAO has strictly controlled the materials, temperature, even the type of water used to make concrete, then to the production and curing process to ensure the product is properly cured and carefully stored. Thanks to that, the products delivered to the project are all of high quality. As a supervisor, we are very satisfied with all the products that AMACCAO has provided. Personally, I think AMACCAO has done an excellent job," Mr. Ivan Conihan emphasized.

Mr. Ivan Conihan recalled the time in September 2024, when Typhoon Yagi swept through Hanoi, the road from the underground station to the AMACCAO factory was deeply flooded, trees were falling everywhere but the project progress could not be delayed.

At this time, AMACCAO's leadership coordinated with local authorities, Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, contractors and supervision consultants to "weather the storm and wind", transporting tunnel lining panels right in the middle of this difficult time, helping the project not to be interrupted.

"We were impressed with their sense of responsibility in their work. Even when the storm was still going on, the tunnel drilling continued underground because it was safe there, but the risk of missing tunnel linings was real. AMACCAO's dedication and determination helped us avoid this risk," said Mr. Ivan Conihan.
