Love story of the soldier "train without number"

Mr. Le Dinh Kien, 80 years old in the Party, was once a young man from the coastal area of Nam O. He was a railway mechanic, left early to join the General Uprising in 1945, then joined the army to fight the long-term resistance war.

In 1954, he gathered in the North, met his wife in Nghe An, and then went to the North to work. Ten years later, in 1964, he received a secret mission to follow the "unnumbered train" back to the South to fight. The day he went to the South, she was pregnant with their youngest son. When the train to the South passed by their house in Hai Phong , his eldest daughter ran after the car and called "Dad", but he did not dare to say hello to her for fear of revealing his identity. Stepping onto the "unnumbered train", he did not bring anything related to his past, from an envelope to a military uniform. He became a fisherman in the South like many other fishermen.

Crossing the sea to the South, he was one of 22 leading cadres operating at Vung Ro port. During more than 10 years of operation in the South, there were years when the telegraph station was destroyed, all communication with the Central was cut off, the family thought he had sacrificed. She was in the North, wearily raising her children, waiting uncertainly for news of him, both happy and sad when the day the country was unified, he returned to reunite with her.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Navy, we visited the grandparents at a small house deep in an alley on Truong Chinh Street (An Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District). The house was small but covered in green leaves. We were greeted by a 95-year-old woman and a 100-year-old man, along with their second son. The old woman complimented us on how beautiful our ao dai were. She entered the house later and appeared radiantly in a red ao dai just a few minutes later. I began to admire the strong vitality emanating from the 95-year-old woman. Talking with the family, we were even more impressed by the love and dedication of the grandparents' own happy youth to the country. The love they have for each other over the past 70 years remains intact and full, just like what they have devoted to their homeland.

I wish you and your family good health, so that we and our children can always see your bright eyes, see your cheerful face, and hear more about your life, a meaningful life, filled with every moment, not easy to come by.
