"Wuhan Jiangda Club has a big advantage when playing at home. But we will try our best to bring joy to the fans," veteran striker Huynh Nhu shared.
Bring a big rear
The flight to Wuhan of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club yesterday (May 18) had a special fan. That was Mr. Tran Ngoi (73 years old) - father of veteran midfielder Tran Nguyen Bao Chau.
His daughter rented him a hotel about 3km from where the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club is based. It only costs 10 yuan (about 36,000 VND) to take a taxi there, and he couldn't hide his excitement when talking about the upcoming cheering.
Talking about taking his father to China to cheer, Bao Chau shared: "My father likes watching football and often goes with my mother to cheer for me and the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club whenever they have the chance. But this is the first time going abroad.
Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club also reached the semi-finals of the continental women's football tournament for the first time, so I also want to have a memory for my father. I want my father to go to China to cheer for me and the whole team. Seeing my father excited about the trip, I have more motivation to go out and fight."
Bao Chau scored a beautiful long-range goal for Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in the quarter-final win over Abu Dhabi (UAE) 5-4 at Thong Nhat Stadium last March. And now the 34-year-old girl is aiming for a good result against host Wuhan Jiangda in the semi-finals.
Bao Chau shared: "The first goal in the quarter-finals is the motivation for me to continue trying for the upcoming semi-final match. My team and I will try to compete and win to give to our relatives as well as the fans who have always followed and supported the HCMC Women's Club."
Prepare seriously
As soon as they arrived in Wuhan in the morning, the Vietnamese women's team actively practiced in the afternoon. Two players, Thuy Trang and K'Thua, who had just joined the Vietnamese women's futsal team to participate in the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship in Inner Mongolia (China), also practiced in the afternoon of the same day in Wuhan in the intense heat.
The main exercise given by coach Doan Thi Kim Chi to her students is to circulate the ball as quickly as possible to break down the opponent's defense.
The only loss for the HCMC Women's Club is that rookie midfielder Maria Khan (American of Pakistani origin) is still unable to practice with the team due to injury.
But despite that, Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi has prepared plans for her players to achieve the best results against Wuhan Jiangda. The HCMC women's players also showed confidence in their preparation.
Striker Huynh Nhu shared: "Coming to this round, every team has to fight. We have watched the video, studied Wuhan Jiangda Club and see that we have the ability to play with them. The opportunity is divided equally between both teams. The team that seizes the opportunity better will win."
Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club has 6 foreign and overseas Vietnamese players to prepare for the match against Wuhan Jiangda. In addition to center back Aubrey Goodwill, forwards Sabrina Marie Cabrera and Ashley Tram Anh (both from the US) are increasingly integrating well after playing since the quarterfinals, the 3 new players focusing on the midfield also show quick integration.
"The recent friendly matches in Hanoi were very helpful for the new foreign players to integrate and adapt to the team's playing style. Wuhan Jiangda has tall players, while the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club currently has foreign players with good physiques to fill that gap," Huynh Nhu affirmed.
Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club has made history as the only representative of Vietnam and Southeast Asia to reach the semi-finals of the first-ever continental women's tournament. However, coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and her team do not hide their desire to continue making history in the upcoming semi-final match.
Huynh Nhu affirmed that the goal of the HCMC Women's Club is to reach the final, and further, the championship. She herself also set a goal for herself, which is to try to play well and score goals.
