As soon as he cried for the first time at the Da Nang Children's Hospital, baby D. (living in Da Nang, now 10 years old) turned purple, had acute heart failure, and severe respiratory failure. Test results showed that in the brain there was a large congenital vascular malformation, many complex feeding arteries, and a very high blood flow.
Leading experts from within and outside the country consulted and all assessed that this was a rare case and extremely difficult to intervene. "My whole family was devastated when the doctor said that my child could pass away at any time if the malformation ruptured, or live in a state of disability due to compression. How could my child endure such a life!" - D.'s grandmother emotionally recalled.
Not willing to give up, D.'s mother read an article about a complex cerebral vascular malformation that was successfully treated by Dr. Tran Chi Cuong - now the Director of SIS Can Tho International General Hospital. The family immediately contacted him.

Baby D's cerebral vascular malformation before and after multiple interventions.
When baby D. was just 1 year old, Dr. Tran Chi Cuong performed the first intervention in Da Nang. "This was a huge challenge. The malformation was too complicated, while the patient was too young and interventional tools were limited," the expert shared.
Fortunately, the first case was successful beyond expectations. The doctors consulted and decided to intervene in multiple stages to reduce blood flow and prevent the risk of the malformation rupturing.
"Over the past 10 years, D. has undergone 8 brain vascular interventions. From being paralyzed and having difficulty with movement and language, D. was able to stand and walk steadily at the age of 3 and a half. Now, he studies and plays normally like other friends of the same age.
"When my child was 1 year old, Dr. Cuong promised to help 80%. Now I see it's more than 80%. When he was little, he couldn't walk or talk, my whole family cried all the time. Now seeing him healthy, my family is very happy" - the child's grandmother emotionally said.

Talking to the doctor, little D said that he liked the doctor's white coat. The doctors gave D a white blouse.
"To us, the image of a small, healthy girl in a white blouse is a symbol of hope, determination and love for the medical profession, after a 10-year journey of accompanying and reviving a fragile life" - Dr. Tran Chi Cuong shared.
