The Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Functional Testing, Phu Tho Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has just successfully removed a large colon polyp (30x22mm) from a 13-year-old boy with a history of intussusception.
Previously, on October 30, 2025, patient NTA (13 years old, Phu Tho) was hospitalized due to abdominal pain and nausea lasting 1 day. Through ultrasound and CT scan, the doctor suspected the intussusception was caused by a colon polyp. Endoscopy determined there was a large polyp with a long, twisted stalk.
Because the polyp was large and had a high risk of bleeding, after consultation, the doctor used a snare (metal wire loop) polyp cutting technique to completely remove it.

Doctors performed endoscopy to remove colon polyps.
The doctors completely removed the polyp, the stalk was safely clamped to stop bleeding with 4 clips (15mm). The entire procedure went smoothly, without complications.
BSCKI Be Thi Minh Quynh said that cutting polyps with a snare is a modern technique that accurately removes polyps with stalks or semi-stalked stalks, helping to reduce the risk of recurrence.

This success is the result of professional support from endoscopists at Phu Tho General Hospital and demonstrates the capacity of the medical team at Phu Tho Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
After the surgery, the child was monitored in the Pediatric Surgery Department, given prophylactic antibiotics, digestive enzymes and soft foods. After 6 days, the child's health was stable, no longer had abdominal pain and was discharged from the hospital.

The doctor examined the child's health before discharge.
Doctors emphasize that although colon polyps are usually benign, if large they can cause digestive disorders, bleeding, or lead to intussusception. Parents need to closely monitor unusual signs such as prolonged abdominal pain and bloody stools to take their children to the doctor for early examination and screening.
