Kinhtedothi - Recently, Vietnam has been chosen by many world-famous bands as a destination for their tours. Shows in Vietnam create opportunities for the tourism industry to build tours combining music with culture and cuisine to create unique products that attract customers.
Destination of many famous bands
Future Market Insights' forecast on music tourism market trends shows that by 2032, the global music tourism market will reach 11.3 billion USD. Recently, Vietnam has welcomed a series of international music shows. Accordingly, at the end of October 2024, the Swedish band Arrival held a music night "The music of ABBA" in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi... attracting thousands of domestic and international audiences.
This is not the first time world- famous bands have chosen Vietnam as a destination for their world tours. Previously, the band BlackPink (Korea) held two shows in Hanoi, attracting more than 170,000 domestic and international audiences, helping the capital's tourism industry earn more than 600 billion VND in revenue, with the number of guests booking rooms increasing 2-3 times. According to the Traveloka platform, the number of visitors to Hanoi during BlackPink's tour came not only from provinces and cities in the country but also from all over Asia.
Similarly, the 8Wonder music festival with the participation of international star Charlie Puth held in Khanh Hoa also attracted a large number of domestic and international tourists to attend. In June 2024, the legendary band Westlife (Ireland ) held The Wild Dreams Tour in Hanoi, attracting 15,000 fans.
Recognizing the benefits that international music events bring to the tourism industry, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Opera House Chu Anh Hung stated that music tourism is a combination of enjoying entertaining music events with sightseeing and resorting, helping tourists relax and improve their spiritual life.
Music events of international artists held in Vietnam have attracted a large number of fans from all over the world to attend to enjoy the music performances of their idols. At the same time, they will be able to explore the specialties, local culture, people and experience tourism activities, resorts, dining, shopping... Thereby, increasing the number of tourists to a destination and promoting the development of tourism services.
Need special policy
Assessing the impact of music events on tourism activities, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh said that although music tourism in Vietnam is still quite new, it has brought opportunities for tourism activities. The success of many music events creates great attraction for local tourism.
However, to develop this type of tourism, tourism experts and businesses share the same opinion that management agencies need to have specific policies to create a "handshake" between the organizer and tourism businesses. Looking back at the Black Pink music event, Director of Hanoi Tourism Investment Joint Stock Company Nguyen Thi Ngan shared that tourism businesses only knew the event's schedule when the day was near, so they could not buy tickets for guests, so the unit could only exploit part of the vehicle and accommodation services.
Similarly, Nguyen Cong Hoan, Deputy General Director of Flamingo Holding Group, said that in the world, many music events help the venue earn millions of dollars, increasing revenue for the tourism industry. However, to build a music tourism product, it is important that the performance must be periodic, requiring the performance organizer to have a "long-term" plan in the organization stage, from which the tourism business builds the tour.
“Suggestions” to develop this type of tourism, Deputy Director of Viettravel Hanoi Pham Van Bay said that when the management agency grants performance licenses in Vietnam to large bands, it can connect or inform tourism units so that businesses can get information, work with the organizing board to reserve a certain number of tickets for tourism units to organize tours. At that time, the units will combine to create tourism products combined with music, bringing more economic efficiency.
Daewoo Hotel Deputy General Manager Sunny Ghaie said that the music market needs to be informed early so that the hotel can prepare rooms and accompanying services. The combination of units will bring good service and promote the destination image more effectively.
To effectively exploit music tourism, Head of the Faculty of Tourism, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long said that management agencies also need to have policies to create favorable conditions for organizing units such as legal support and tax reduction for activities related to organizing music events.
In addition, to attract international tourists, it is necessary to invest in building high-quality music programs, diversifying music events, by regularly organizing music festivals with many different genres from folk, classical to modern, to serve a variety of audiences.
Invite famous domestic and foreign artists to perform to increase the attractiveness of the event. At the same time, combine with other fields such as linking music tourism with cultural tourism, cuisine... to create rich tours.
Agreeing with this opinion, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association Cao Thi Ngoc Lan noted that, along with exploiting the domestic market, Vietnam also needs to focus on attracting international stars, becoming a destination for major art events. "In reality, in order to be able to directly watch their idols perform, tourists often do not hesitate to spend, not only on services surrounding the show but also on products, retail goods, and accompanying cuisine," Ms. Lan emphasized.
