The storm combined with high tides and heavy rains can cause flooding, coastal landslides, traffic disruption and the risk of thunderstorms.

Storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi) is approaching the East Sea with strong winds of level 13-14, gusts of level 17, forecast to directly affect coastal provinces from Quang Tri to Dak Lak . The storm combined with high tides and heavy rains can cause flooding, coastal landslides, traffic disruption and the risk of thunderstorms.

Storm status: At 10:00 a.m. this morning (November 5), the center of storm Kalmaegi was at about 11.6 degrees North latitude; 118.4 degrees East longitude, about 450 km east of Song Tu Tay island.

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 13-14 (134-166 km/h), gusting to level 17. The storm is forecast to move west-northwest at a speed of about 20 km/h.

Forecasting the impact of storms

At sea: Central East Sea (including the sea area north of Truong Sa archipelago): strong wind level 8-11, near the storm center level 12-14, gusting to level 17. Waves 5-7 m high, near the storm center 8-10 m; rough seas.

From early morning of November 6, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa (including Ly Son and Cu Lao Cham areas) gradually increased wind to level 6-7, then increased to level 8-11, near the storm center level 12-14, gusting to level 17. Waves 4-6 m high, near the storm center 6-8 m; rough seas.

Rising water and coastal flooding

Coastal areas from Thua Thien Hue to Dak Lak are likely to experience storm surges of 0.3-0.6 m. From the evening of November 6, it is necessary to be on guard against rising sea levels, large waves causing flooding in low-lying areas, waves overtopping banks, coastal erosion, and impacting flood drainage.

All vessels and aquaculture areas in the danger zone will be strongly affected by strong winds, storms, high waves and rising sea levels.

On land: From the evening of November 6, coastal areas from South Quang Tri to Da Nang, the East of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak provinces, winds gradually increase to level 6-7, then increase to level 8-9, near the storm center level 10-12, gusting to level 14-15 (concentrated in the East of Quang Ngai-Dak Lak).

From the evening and night of November 6, the western provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have strong winds of level 6-7, near the storm center level 8, gusting to level 10.

Heavy rain: From November 6-7, the area from Da Nang to Dak Lak will have very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 200-400 mm/period, in some places over 600 mm/period; The areas from South Quang Tri to Hue, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong will have heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 150-300 mm/period, in some places over 450 mm/period. From November 8, heavy rain tends to decrease.

From November 7-8, the area from North Quang Tri to Thanh Hoa will have moderate to heavy rain, with average rainfall of 50-150 mm/period, and in some places over 200 mm/period.

Warning: There is a possibility of heavy rain of over 200 mm in 3 hours, causing flooding and landslides in mountainous and midland areas. Due to the influence of the wide storm circulation, it is necessary to be on guard against thunderstorms, tornadoes, and strong gusts of wind occurring before, during, and after the storm makes landfall.

People and local authorities closely monitor storm forecasts and warnings, proactively prepare prevention plans, and ensure safety for people, boats, and coastal structures.
