According to HMCC, Ngo Mon - Ngu Phung Tower, the main southern gate of Hue Imperial City, was built in Minh Mang 14 (1833), when the Nguyen Dynasty reorganized the entire architectural plan of the Imperial City. Ngo Mon has a gentle, graceful architecture and has always been considered a pinnacle of Hue Royal Court architecture.
Located in a tropical monsoon climate with high humidity and heavy rainfall, Ngo Mon Gate is one of the reasons why algae, moss, fungi, bacteria and lichens grow on the surface of the gate, while also creating favorable conditions for plants to take root through the joints and cracks in the gate. With the goal of preserving this precious historical relic, Karcher and HMCC have collaborated on a project to clean up Ngo Mon Gate, Hue Imperial City.
The project was officially implemented successfully from March 15-26, 2019 with close cooperation between HMCC and Karcher. This project is part of the Karcher Group's global Cultural Sponsorship program since 1980, helping to preserve cultural works and historical relics by Karcher's team of cleaning experts.
After 2 weeks of project implementation, with a professional and highly focused working spirit, a team of experienced experts from Karcher directly cleaned the project and also guided and transferred techniques to the HMCC staff.
By using a Karcher steam cleaning machine and a special nozzle to create a steam pressure of 0.5-1 bar on the surface of stone, bricks... the heating system can create steam with a maximum temperature of about 100°C, completely removing all types of dirt and biological pollution on the wall as well as destroying dirt below the surface, residing deeper inside the stone holes... restoring the original appearance of the building, the wall surfaces become shiny, the original color and beauty of the building are revealed... At the same time, it helps slow down the re-development time of harmful biological layers.
This is a modern method of cleaning historical buildings while still ensuring environmental friendliness and not damaging the function of architectural materials, thereby contributing to the preservation and maintenance of heritage architecture for a longer time.
The project to clean up Ngo Mon Gate, Hue Imperial City not only contributes to beautifying the landscape and complete heritage space in the Complex of Hue Monuments but is also very useful in preserving and maintaining the original artistic values that have existed for a long time in one of the typical royal architectural relics of the Nguyen Dynasty, contributing to improving the quality of tourist services at the Hue heritage site.
