20 years of contributing to changing the face of journalism towards professionalism, humanity and modernity

The predecessor of today's Press Department is the Ministry of Information and Propaganda, established on August 28, 1945, with comrade Tran Huy Lieu as Minister. On May 3, 1946, the Information and Propaganda Department was established, with the function of "collecting and disseminating domestic news", marking the birth of the state management agency for press information. An important milestone was that on July 16, 2003, Minister of Culture and Information Pham Quang Nghi signed Decision No. 22/2003/QD-VHTT to establish the Press Department.

In his opening speech, Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc, Director of the Press Department, emphasized: The establishment of the Press Department marks a step forward in the scale of organization, apparatus, and personnel of the state management agency of the press, demonstrating the strategic vision of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture and Information during this period. Over the past 20 years, the organizational structure of the Department has been divided into many different units, but has gradually been completed; the scope, management objects, functions and tasks of the Department have been expanded, with many new and more important responsibilities, demonstrating the trust and recognition of the leaders of the Party, the State and generations of leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

In particular, during 20 years of development and growth, the Press Department has made important contributions to institutional building, creating breakthroughs for press development and management. The Press Department has chaired and participated in the development and promulgation of 113 legal documents and other documents, notably: Press Law 2016; Decree detailing the statements and provision of information to the press by state administrative agencies; Project on Planning for the development and management of the national press until 2025. Along with that, the state management of the press over the past 20 years has made an important contribution to changing the face of the press towards professionalism, humanity and modernity.

According to Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc, in the development process, especially from 2019 to present, the state management of information content has significantly contributed to creating social consensus, social trust, and creating momentum for the country's economic and social development. Strengthening the rectification and handling of violations in press activities helps the press operate in an orderly and professional manner. Violations related to improper implementation of principles and purposes, false information; the situation of "newspaperization" of electronic magazines, general electronic information sites, social networks, and "disguising" activities as press agencies have been strongly and effectively rectified.

“Proud of the 20-year journey of a young unit, but with a glorious past, the current generation of Press Department officials believes that, under the leadership of the Party, the management of the State, the trust of the People, with the strength crystallized from the precious tradition of previous generations, the Press Department has overcome and will overcome all challenges and difficulties, unite, join forces, be unanimous, innovate, and excellently complete its tasks before the Party, State and People”, Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc shared.

With outstanding achievements in work, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland over the past 20 years, the Press Department was honored to receive the Second Class Labor Medal from the President.

The Press Department must take the lead and pioneer in digital transformation.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Manh Hung, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Information and Communications, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, warmly praised and acknowledged the achievements and results of the Press Department over the past 20 years.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: In the coming time, the Vietnamese revolutionary press needs to continue to contribute to arousing national aspirations. That is the aspiration to develop the country to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, Vietnam to become a developed socialist country with high income by 2045. This is the new mission of the revolutionary press.

To realize that aspiration, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also pointed out key points that need to be noted. One of them is the role and responsibility of the Press Department in state management, which is to develop the press, meet the new requirements of the country, and ensure that revolutionary journalists can make a living from their profession. Press agencies must be invested in facilities and technology so as not to fall behind other media businesses in the market.

"Development will create new problems. But only with development will there be resources to deal with new problems. In addition, new development will not be left behind or annexed. In particular, development is the goal, stability is the premise, innovation is the driving force for development, aiming to meet the new requirements of the country." - Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung shared.

"In the past, journalism was just pens and paper, now it has digital technology and digital platforms, but the constant is still the core values ​​of revolutionary journalism and the heart of journalists. State management of the press is to create a favorable environment for revolutionary journalism to develop, both up to the task and the times, and professional, modern and humane" - Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Press Department, Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc, Director of the Press Department, took note of and respectfully accepted the direction of the Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung. That is the guiding principle for those working in press management today. With the strength crystallized from tradition, on behalf of the leadership of the Press Department, Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc promised to continue promoting the cultural values ​​of the Department through the periods, unite to support, share innovation, determined to build digital technology, digital institutions, and excellently fulfill his tasks before the Party, State and People.

Also at the ceremony, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to the Press Department; the Third Class Labor Medal to Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc, Director of the Press Department. Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to Mr. Dang Khac Loi, Deputy Director of the Press Department.
