The Happiness Road in Ha Giang – where "even stones bloom" – is an extremely popular tourist destination in Ha Giang. This long, winding, and beautiful road is captivating travelers both domestically and internationally. It's often hailed as the most beautiful road in Ha Giang, so what makes it so uniquely beautiful?
Let's join author Huynh My Thuan in exploring this historical, sacred, and beautiful road through her photo series "The Ma Pi Leng Road of Happiness." This series was submitted by the author to the Happy Vietnam Photo and Video Contest, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications .
Ma Pi Leng Pass – Dong Van Stone Plateau is located at an altitude of 1,200m on the Dong Van Stone Plateau, along the Happiness Road connecting Ha Giang city with Dong Van and Meo Vac districts.
On October 3, 2010, the dossier for the "Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark" was officially recognized as a Global Geopark by the Advisory Council of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network (GGN). At that time, this was the only such title in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia.
As you embark on this journey, you'll be captivated by the beauty of rhododendron flowers and the white blossoms of bauhinia on the high mountain peaks. Furthermore, you'll get a panoramic view of the highland landscape along the elevated route and fully appreciate the natural scenery as you continue to conquer the nearly 200 km journey.
In winter, the road is tinged with the dark gray of clouds and hazy fog. In summer, the rays of the rising sun shine through, making the road seem to burst into light.
The majestic mountain scenery features sheer cliffs on one side and the deep gorge of the Nho Que River with its emerald green waters on the other. Along the route to conquer Ma Pi Leng Pass, there are rest stops where tourists can relax and enjoy the view.
From September to November, the road becomes attractive to tourists because of the golden color of ripening rice and the pink color of buckwheat flowers…
During their journey exploring the Happiness Road in October, tourists can also experience and admire the vibrant buckwheat flower fields, observe and photograph the unique traditional costumes of the Mong ethnic group, enjoy the unique cuisine of the Mong people such as thang co (a traditional stew), corn wine, buckwheat flower cakes, buckwheat beer, and join in the fun with Mong boys and girls dancing to the melodious sounds of the flute – a truly unforgettable experience.
