"Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" Competition: Launch pad to build an Open Innovation Bank

With the desire to create an Open Innovation Bank (OIB), the Design Thinking - Open Innovation Village (DIS) - Techfest Vietnam, organized the "Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" competition, with a total prize of nearly 2 billion VND.

Taking place online, the "Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" competition received the participation of nearly 70 contestants who are scientists , scientists, experts, businesses, lecturers, especially startups from many provinces and cities across the country.

The competition is organized according to the policy of the Ministry of Science and Technology on innovation, under the direction of the Department of Market Development, Science and Technology Enterprises, National Center for Creative Startup Support (NSSC), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Diamond Innovation Forest Company, VitanEdu Education and Career Ecosystem and the companionship and co-organization of many units.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Toan Thang, Director of the National Center for Startup Support (NSSC), affirmed that the Competition is an annual and continuous activity of Techfest Vietnam, attracting the participation of the Jury, coaches and advisors who are experts and scientists from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and other provinces and cities nationwide.

Mr. Le Toan Thang emphasized that the contest is not only a playground for businesses, scientists and students who aspire to conquer great ambitions, but also has a humanistic meaning with the spirit of promoting a Vietnam that is increasingly developing sustainably and reaching the world, starting from creative ideas that help improve society for the better.

Within the framework of the Launching Ceremony of the “Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023” Competition this time, Dr. Tran Quy, Director of the Vietnam Institute for Digital Economic Development - Advisor of Techfest Vietnam, presented the Open Innovation Bank (OIB) Project.

At the same time, Dr. Pham Hong Hai, Creative Director of Innovation Impact Center (IIC) - member of the Jury, also shared information about the program "Design Thinking and application in innovative startups".

Mr. Huynh Huu Tai, Design thinking practitioner - founder of WeTransform Company, Design Thinking trainer of the Competition shared about Design Thinking application case studies in the world.

According to MSc. Tran Quoc Duy, Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Binh Phuoc province, the "Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" Competition is the final filter - a place to connect domestic and overseas Vietnamese startup and innovation competitions.

Thereby, finding Vietnamese representatives on the journey to reach the international level, creating inspiration about the strong impacts that startups can bring to the community, as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

Candidates participate in the Competition in 2 areas: Technology (Information technology, digital economy: AI, Robotics, Big Data, IoT, Blockchain, Metaverse, Information management solutions; Biotechnology; Financial technology) and Impact creation (Healthcare; Well-being; Education and Training; Corporate culture; Innovation culture; Ecosystem; Green economy; Sustainable development; Clean production; Recycling; Environmental protection).

The representative of the Organizing Committee said that the "Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" competition has 3 biggest differences compared to other competitions, including: The teams are trained in Design Thinking to develop creative ideas, develop products, business models...; The TOP 10 of the Competition are supported in the acceleration round; Good and potential ideas that have not reached the TOP 10 can still submit their ideas and join the Open Innovation Bank OIB community.

In particular, teams that enter the TOP 10 or the Semi-finals of the Competition will be given priority to participate in the Top 80 of the National Techfest 2023. Previously, the launching activities of the Competition took place at a number of universities and a number of organizations and units in localities, thereby attracting hundreds of participants.

It is known that the deadline for submitting entries to the "Design Thinking - Open Innovation 2023" Competition is 11:00 p.m. on June 16, 2023.
