Da Nang strives to reach 10.3 million overnight visitors in 2024

On the afternoon of October 14, the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a conference to evaluate tourism activities in the first 9 months of 2024 and deploy tasks for the last months of 2024 and 2025.

At the conference, Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City said that in the first 9 months of the year, the total number of visitors is estimated at 8.67 million, an increase of 33% over the same period in 2023, equal to 163% of the same period in 2019. Of which, international visitors are estimated at more than 3.17 million, an increase of 30%, equal to 134% over the same period in 2019; domestic visitors are estimated at more than 5.49 million, an increase of 34%, equal to 186% over the same period in 2019.

Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at more than VND 26,000 billion, up 26%, equal to 135% over the same period in 2019. Of which, revenue from accommodation and travel is estimated at more than VND 13,000 billion, up 37%, equal to 152% over the same period in 2019.

In 2024, the total number of guests is expected to reach 10.3 million, an increase of 39% compared to 2023. Of which, international visitors are estimated to reach 4.2 million, an increase of 2.1 times, domestic visitors are estimated to reach 6.1 million, an increase of 13%. Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel for the whole year is estimated to reach more than 38,000 billion VND, an increase of 37% compared to 2023, equal to 178% compared to 2019.

In 2025, the total number of visitors is expected to reach more than 10.5 million, an increase of 6% compared to 2024. Of which, international visitors are estimated to reach 4.3 million, an increase of 11%, domestic visitors are estimated to reach more than 6.2 million. Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel in 2025 is estimated to reach 40,700 billion VND, an increase of 11% compared to 2024.

Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh also said that compared to 2019, the rate of visitors from Korea, China, Thailand, and Japan has decreased, especially the Korean market decreased by 8.5%, China decreased by 13.6%. Offsetting this decrease is the growth of some new markets such as Taiwan increased by 8.1%; India increased by 4.2%; Australia increased by 1.1%; Russia increased by 1.4%...

"This reality reflects the shift of some traditional tourist markets to new destinations; at the same time, it clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the policy of diversifying the international tourist market with efforts to promote, seek and expand the market, restore and develop direct international flights, strengthen the organization of festivals and events to attract visitors and communication and promotion of Da Nang destination", said Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh.

According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the Top 10 international tourist markets to Da Nang are currently: South Korea (accounting for 41.3%), Taiwan, Thailand, China, India, the US, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and Russia.

Regarding the situation of air passenger exploitation, as of September 2024, there are 20 routes to Da Nang (5 domestic routes and 15 regular international routes). The new route Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) - Da Nang was opened in September. The route from Amedabad (India) will be opened in October 2024, the route from Jakarta (Indonesia) in December 2024. The average frequency is 115 flights/day (64 domestic flights and 51 international flights/day).

For sea routes, in the first 9 months of 2024, there were 27 trips and 32,550 passengers to Da Nang, an increase of 5 trips and 14,450 passengers compared to the total of the whole year 2023. It is expected that in 2024, there will be 40,000 passengers, an increase of 120% compared to 2023.

For railways, in the first 9 months of 2024, it is estimated that 538,024 passengers will arrive in Da Nang, an increase of more than 48% over the same period. It is expected that in 2024, it will welcome 648,540 passengers, an increase of 44% over the whole year of 2023.

The Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism said that a number of difficulties and challenges have affected the tourism development of Da Nang City. For example, international economic and political fluctuations, natural disasters, epidemics, climate change, and the current global economic recession have led to a decrease in tourism demand and high airfare costs. Accordingly, tourists tend to save, tighten spending, and choose nearby destinations.

International destination competition is very strong from Thailand and China (cheap prices, flexible visa policies, government support for airlines to open routes, giving cash vouchers to tourists...). The scale, market exploitation capacity and cooperation in business of Da Nang tourism enterprises are still limited.

Wharf and landscape planning are not yet synchronized. Some roads in Son Tra peninsula are still under repair; risk of landslides on roads in Son Tra peninsula.

The quality of human resources serving tourism is uneven, unprofessional in terms of expertise and service skills due to the labor shift after COVID-19, and a lack of experienced tourism human resources. Tourism businesses are still facing many difficulties in business, so investment in human resource training and upgrading facilities is very limited.

(3) Implementing tourism communication and promotion: continuing to promote the opening of direct international flights to Da Nang, organizing the reception of new flights and a two-way passenger stimulus program to maintain the flights; implementing activities to promote the exploitation of the Australian tourist market, sea and road tourists, linking to form and create a trend of experiential tourism by train. (4) Ensuring a secure, safe, green - clean - beautiful tourism environment; inspecting and guiding tourism businesses to ensure safety for tourists. (5) Implementing a plan to plant coconut trees on two coastal routes.

These results were achieved thanks to the drastic participation of the city government, the key role of the tourism industry and the coordination of sectors, localities, units, especially the companionship, sharing and great support of the tourism, travel and accommodation business community...

The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee requested the determination and consensus of the entire city's political system, the support of the business community and the cooperation of the people. The Party Executive Committee and the People's Committee of Da Nang City will strengthen coordination with businesses, focus on implementing tasks and clearly define the tasks and targets in 2025. Focus on removing difficulties and obstacles in tourism activities, recommendations, obstacles and proposals mentioned above, especially removing difficulties and obstacles and building policies and support solutions to accelerate the progress of major tourism projects, creating new, unique and different tourism products that have a spillover effect on the city's development.

(7) Cooperation in developing domestic and international tourism
