On August 27 and 28, within the framework of a working trip to China, a delegation of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) led by Director Le Quan visited and worked with Peking University and Tsinghua University, large and prestigious highereducation institutions in China.
Director Le Quan thanked the leaders of Peking University and Tsinghua University for their warm welcome and expressed his great respect for the special relationship between VNU and two leading Chinese universities.
Director Le Quan said that, in carrying out the leading role of VNU in the national education system, VNU was assigned by the Party and State of Vietnam to develop a project to become a university in the top 500 universities in the world by 2030. Along with that, VNU also innovates training models and programs, innovates science and technology work as well as strengthens international cooperation and integration.
After the visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam to China from August 18-20, 2024, the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of higher education, talent training, and science and technology development between the two countries has been increasingly focused on and developed in the coming time. VNU, as a leading center for training, scientific research and technology transfer in Vietnam, will make every effort to contribute to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two Parties and the two countries of Vietnam and China.
The cooperation between VNU, Peking University and Tsinghua University is of great significance in training high-quality human resources and scientific research as well as marking the development of educational cooperation between the two countries.
At the working sessions, Prof. Gong Qihuang - Director and Prof. Hao Ping - Chairman of Peking University Council; Prof. Qiu Yong - Party Secretary, Chairman of Tsinghua University Council all expressed their respect for the visit and work of VNU President Le Quan.
Sharing many similarities as they are all leading, multidisciplinary, multi-field universities that are important in training talents for the country, the leaders of the universities all expressed that cooperation will contribute to promoting the development of the relationship between the two countries in education and training. The cooperation between VNU, Peking University and Tsinghua University reflects the direction and wishes of the leaders of the two countries at the present stage.
Prof. Khuu Dung emphasized that cooperation between Tsinghua University and VNU will contribute to promoting scientific research, training and nurturing talents, which is not only a matter for the two universities but more importantly, it will contribute to developing high-quality human resources for the two countries. He said that the fields of artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology are top priorities for Vietnam, China and many other countries in the world. Therefore, he also suggested that Tsinghua University and VNU will focus on promoting cooperation in training high-quality human resources in these fields.
Prof. Gong Qihuang said that in recent times, due to the impact of the Covid pandemic, direct exchange activities have been limited. However, it also opens up opportunities for online exchange, creating a new trend in developing education on digital platforms. Prof. Gong Qihuang invited VNU to join the international alliance of universities on developing digital intelligence education to discuss the development direction of higher education institutions in the digital age.
Prof. Le Quan suggested that in the coming time, VNU will cooperate with Peking University and Tsinghua University in training cooperation programs for young scientists; exchange programs for lecturers and students in the fields of science and technology, engineering, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, social sciences and humanities, etc.
Prof. Le Quan expressed his hope that Peking University and key universities in East Asia will restart the BESETOHA Forum to continue carrying out academic and research activities, demonstrating social responsibility as well as the capacity and position of leading universities in the region.
He also invited Prof. Khuu Dung, Prof. Hao Ping, Prof. Gong Qihuang and scientists from Peking University and Tsinghua University to visit VNU and attend the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies in 2025 hosted by VNU.
