The signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement between FPT and NUS Computing took place in Singapore.
Under this memorandum of cooperation, FPT , together with NUS and other businesses in Singapore's and the Asia -Pacific AI ecosystem, plans to raise $50 million over the next five years for pioneering research and development of AI talent. This collaboration will help FPT promote the commercialization of AI solutions and enhance its research and development capabilities, boosting the development of high-quality AI human resources to improve the Group's competitiveness in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. One of the key activities of the cooperation agreement is the joint establishment of an AI research lab based on the research strengths of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and FPT's technological capabilities. This AI research lab will focus on developing cutting-edge technologies, including machine learning, data analytics, natural language processing, and computer vision, to solve practical problems in fields such as banking, insurance, logistics, transportation, aviation, energy, and manufacturing, contributing to the advancement of AI innovation in Vietnam, Singapore, and the Asia-Pacific region. Simultaneously, researchers and experts from this AI lab will publish collaborative research papers and white papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, sharing new discoveries with the global academic and business community. Considered an important part of the NUS Computing ecosystem, this AI lab will be located on campus and will collaborate closely with the NUS National Institute of Artificial Intelligence (NAII), which brings together experienced AI researchers and experts. According to the cooperation agreement, FPT and NUS Computing will also seek opportunities to commercialize AI-integrated solutions, products, and services jointly researched and developed for the global market. Another important aspect of the agreement is that the two parties will promote the training of high-quality AI personnel through programs such as internships, workshops, training, and doctoral research, making a significant contribution to Vietnam and Singapore remaining at the forefront of technological innovation. Speaking at the signing ceremony, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh shared: “AI is considered one of the core technologies shaping the future of industries and fields. For more than a decade, FPT has actively pursued AI research and development to promote innovation and is integrating AI into all Made by FPT services and solutions. FPT has also invested heavily in training, ensuring the readiness of AI human resources.” "Collaborating with the prestigious National University of Singapore will help us harness the power of AI to drive the development and success of both sides, not only in Singapore and Vietnam but also globally." David Nguyen, CEO of FPT Asia Pacific, FPT Group, emphasized: "The establishment of an AI research lab in Singapore is the foundation of our partnership. We will develop groundbreaking solutions to address challenges in key economic sectors crucial to regional development, such as healthcare, banking, insurance, logistics, transportation, aviation, energy, and manufacturing. By leveraging each other's strengths, we will continuously innovate and deliver positive results for both countries, the region, and the world." Professor Tan Kian Lee, President of NUS Computing, shared: “The partnership between NUS Computing and FPT is mutually beneficial. We aim to provide advanced AI solutions to address real-world challenges, while contributing to the AI ecosystem in Singapore and globally through the development of highly skilled AI professionals.” NUS is Singapore’s leading university, with 16 schools and faculties located across three campuses in Singapore, and over 40,000 students from 100 countries. With a half-century of AI research experience, the university maintains close ties with Singaporean government agencies, businesses, and international partners on numerous AI projects. In 2024, NUS established the Artificial Intelligence Institute, bringing together leading AI researchers and experts. Artificial intelligence is considered one of the cutting-edge technologies, playing a core role in FPT’s development strategy. The corporation will continue to invest strongly and comprehensively in all aspects, from human resources and infrastructure to databases and research, for this core technology. FPT will also bring AI into every corner of life and integrate this technology into all products and solutions within the Made by FPT ecosystem, benefiting end users. Recently, FPT partnered with NVIDIA to invest in building an AI factory with an expected investment of $200 million. Previously, to strengthen its capabilities in the AI field, FPT collaborated with leading companies such as Landing AI and AIOMATIC, and became a founding member of the AI Alliance initiated by IBM and Meta. FPT currently has an AI workforce of over 1,500 engineers, along with additional resources from 1,300 FPT University students annually, as well as from the AI Residency program in collaboration with the Mila Quebec AI Institute, to nurture young talents in the AI industry.
