Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên25/09/2023

"The Cuban Embassy in the United States was the target of a terrorist attack by an individual who threw two Molotov cocktails. No personnel were harmed," Foreign Minister Rodriguez wrote on X, according to AFP.

"Anti-Cuban groups resort to terrorism when they feel they are not punished, something Cuba has repeatedly warned US officials about," Rodriguez added.

The attack on the evening of September 24 (US time) occurred a few hours after Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel returned to Havana after attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York City and other activities with Cubans in the US.

Embassy of Cuba in Washington DC

This is the second attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC in recent years, after a man opened fire on the building in April 2020. No one was injured in that attack.

In April 2020, Foreign Minister Rodriguez summoned then-US Charge d'Affaires in Havana Mara Tekach to express his "strong protest" over what he called a "terrorist aggression" against the Cuban Embassy.

US authorities arrested suspect Alexander Alazo, (then 42 years old), for the shooting at the Cuban Embassy. The Washington DC Police Department said the suspect's motive may have been "hate".

Alazo was indicted in July 2020 on multiple charges, including "violent assault on a foreign official or official premises with a deadly weapon," according to the US Department of Justice .
