Ensuring safe water regulation through the spillway of Nui Coc Lake

From the night of October 6 to October 7, heavy and very heavy rain occurred in the upstream area of Nui Coc reservoir. Heavy rain caused the water level of Nui Coc reservoir at 6:00 a.m. on October 8 to be at an elevation of +46.71m. In order to ensure the safety of the Nui Coc reservoir project, the property and lives of people in the reservoir area and the downstream area of the project, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. discharged floodwater from the Nui Coc reservoir project.

Accordingly, the Company operated the flood discharge through the spillway with a flow rate of 50 to 100m3/second. When the flood discharge operation was carried out, the water level of Nui Coc Lake rose, affecting organizations and households along both banks of the Cong River from behind the flood discharge spillway and upstream of Nui Coc Lake.

Specifically, the upstream area (in the reservoir area, semi-flooded area) including the communes and towns: Hung Son, Tan Thai, Van Tho, Luc Ba, Binh Thuan , Ky Phu (Dai Tu); Phuc Tan (Pho Yen City); Phuc Triu, Phuc Xuan (Thai Nguyen City) have been advised to take precautions when the lake water level rises causing flooding, and to limit activities, production, and planting in the reservoir from elevation +46.20 m to +48.25 m.

For the downstream area after the flood spillway (both banks of the Cong River) including the communes and wards: Phuc Triu, Tan Cuong, Thinh Duc (Thai Nguyen City); Binh Son, Ba Xuyen, Chau Son, Thang Loi, Pho Co (Song Cong City); Minh Duc, Dac Son, Van Phai, Nam Tien, Trung Thanh, Thuan Thanh (Pho Yen City), Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. has requested organizations and individuals to take preventive measures and be proactive in daily life, limit activities and production within the Cong River flood discharge corridor, especially paying attention to traffic safety when the Cong River water level rises.

Upon receiving information about the flood discharge of the Nui Coc reservoir project, agencies and units promptly notified people living along both banks of the Cong River to be proactive in their daily life and activities, production, and not to let people catch fish, shrimp, etc. in the flood discharge corridor area when the project is discharging flood according to operating procedures.

As a result, the flood discharge operation ensures safety. It is the rainy and stormy season, therefore, in the coming time, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. will base on the actual situation and operate the flood discharge of Nui Coc Lake according to an appropriate plan. The unit recommends that localities, units and people pay attention to the announcement to adjust production and living activities appropriately, ensuring the safety of life and property.
