Easy and convenient registration

On the afternoon of July 27, Nguyen Ngoc Anh (residing in Thu Dau Mot ward, Ho Chi Minh City) completed the registration of 18 university admission wishes - one day before the end of the online registration period on the General System of the Ministry of Education and Training . With a clear career orientation from early on and guidance from her family, Ngoc Anh focused all her wishes on the Law group, including majors and specialties such as Law, Economic Law, International Trade Law... In which, her first wish is Law and her second wish is International Trade Law at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.

Ngoc Anh arranged her next wishes in order into majors and programs in the same field at the following schools: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH), University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking, University of Finance and Marketing, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Ton Duc Thang University... After choosing public schools, Ngoc Anh continued to include non-public schools such as Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), University of Economics and Finance (UEF).

“Because I love Law and did not apply for any other major, I just chose my favorite school and arranged my preferences in order of priority,” Ngoc Anh shared. She completed the application on the first morning the system opened (July 16). In the next 10 days, she monitored the minimum score, carefully studied the training program, facilities and teaching quality to adjust the order of preferences.

One of the major changes in university admissions in 2025 is that candidates do not need to choose a method or combination of admission codes. The system will automatically consider admissions based on the methods announced by schools in the admissions plan, helping candidates focus only on choosing a major and arranging their preferences.

Pham Huy Hung (Binh Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), who loves the Economics - Business group, has registered for Marketing, International Business and Finance - Banking at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Ton Duc Thang University. These schools use many methods such as considering academic records, high school graduation exam scores, and Ho Chi Minh City National University's 2025 capacity assessment exam scores. The male student is eligible to participate in all of these methods.

“My high school transcript data and the competency assessment test scores from Ho Chi Minh City National University and the V-SAT competency assessment test have been updated to the system, so I just need to choose a major and a school. I don’t need to worry about the method or combination, it’s very convenient,” Hung shared.

At a recent admissions consultation session, MSc. Cu Xuan Tien - Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department, University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that the new point of university admissions in 2025 is that candidates do not need to choose a method or combination code. If candidates have participated in the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, the exam scores will be automatically updated to the system. When registering for a major and school using this method, the software will automatically consider and arrange in the most beneficial way for candidates.

Further refining the process

MSc. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung - Deputy Head of Admissions and Corporate Relations Department, University of Finance - Marketing, said that this year's registration and adjustment of university admission wishes (from July 16 to July 28) brought more convenience to candidates thanks to improvements in the system. The general system "ran" stably, without any significant incidents or problems.

In addition, all score data from popular methods (except for some foreign language certificates, international exams...) has been automatically updated, without requiring candidates to upload or send proof like in previous years. Candidates only need to choose a major and school; the software will automatically consider admission through all methods for which candidates are eligible, helping to optimize their chances of admission.

“Regulations on the conversion of equivalent admission scores, entry thresholds between admission methods and combinations… create some work for universities. However, this is more technical and is entirely the responsibility of the schools, and does not affect candidates,” said Ms. Phung.

According to MSc. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, eliminating the early admission stage and leaving only one official admission round helps candidates focus fully on the High School Graduation Exam and the Competency Assessment Exam. All admission methods, from high school transcripts, high school graduation exams, competency assessment exams to priority direct admission, are all carried out on the Ministry of Education and Training's common system after the high school graduation exam scores are available.

Mr. Son also said that converting the entire process to a unified admission system poses a technical burden and requires data transparency. The system must synchronize data from many different sources and have accurate, reasonable, and public score conversion between methods to ensure fairness. “However, these things put a ‘burden’ on the shoulders of the Ministry of Education and Training and universities, while bringing convenience to candidates,” Mr. Son said.

MSc. Son suggested that for next year's admission season, the Ministry of Education and Training could announce the regulations on equivalent conversion of admission scores between methods and common admission combinations for universities. This would avoid the situation where each school has a different conversion framework when determining the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) and admission scores later. "If this is completed, it will help candidates more conveniently in the process of choosing and registering their wishes," said Mr. Son.

According to the plan, from July 29 to 5:00 p.m. on August 5, candidates will pay the admission fee online. After that, the Ministry of Education and Training and universities will process the admission wishes (virtual filtering), from August 16 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20. After receiving the benchmark scores, successful candidates must confirm their admission on the system, no later than 5:30 p.m. on August 30. The Ministry of Education and Training requires schools not to organize admission before August 22. Additional admission rounds will start from September 1 until the end of the year.
