At the launching ceremony of the project "Screening for memory and concentration health" held in Ho Chi Minh City recently, Dr. Phung Cong Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Cognitive Neurological Disorders Association, said that cognitive impairment is a decline in the ability to think, remember, speak and other cognitive functions of the brain.
Studies show that 3-8% of young people experience cognitive decline. The cause of this condition comes from 3 factors.

Experts share about cognitive disorders in young people at the program (Photo: Organizing Committee).
The first is neurological factors, such as mild traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety disorders and chronic stress, sleep disorders. The second is metabolic-vascular factors, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity (especially abdominal obesity).
Third, lifestyle and social factors. These include people having little physical activity; a diet high in saturated fat and low in vegetables; smoking and alcohol abuse; stressful work, prolonged lack of sleep; and occupational exposure to organic solvents and heavy metals.
According to experts, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an intermediate stage between normal aging and more serious memory disorders. Decreased concentration and impaired working memory are two common manifestations of the disease.
Of these, 25% of cases of cognitive impairment will progress to dementia.
"Some people suddenly forget what they have done, are doing, and plan to do while working," Dr. Phung Cong Thang cited symptoms of the disease.

Therefore, the Memory and Concentration Health Screening program (Tnmindtest) was implemented to improve the professional capacity of pharmacists in consulting and supporting customers in screening for problems related to memory and concentration.
The program also aims to detect early signs of mild cognitive impairment in people aged 35-50.
TNmindtest is a digital tool to assess memory and concentration, built on the diagnostic criteria for mild cognitive impairment issued by the National Alzheimer's Association of America (NIA-AA) in 2011.
The test focuses on functions that are often affected early in life, such as episodic memory, the ability to learn and remember new information, working memory, and the ability to retain and process short-term information.
To treat cognitive impairment, experts say it is necessary to focus on improving cognitive function and quality of life of patients, with a combination of different methods and personalized treatment.
Depending on the cause and level of cognitive impairment, patients will be treated with medication, cognitive therapy combined with lifestyle changes, participation in social and intellectual activities. Regular health screening is also important in detecting and intervening in a timely manner.
