In recent days, the swimming pool of Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen's family in residential area 2, Trai Cau town (Dong Hy district), has been filled with the laughter of children splashing in the cool water, under the guidance of teacher Nguyen Quang Vinh (Trai Cau Secondary School) and the Trai Cau Town Youth Union.
According to Vu Dai Duong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Vu Dai Duong town: This summer, the town welcomed nearly 1,400 children and teenagers from schools back to the locality for activities. Besides weekly summer activities in residential areas, the Youth Union, in coordination with physical education teachers at schools, organized swimming lessons for children with the support of Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen's family. This is the second year the Youth Union has organized swimming lessons for children in collaboration with youth union members from schools and parents.
According to statistics from residential areas, the town of Trai Cau currently has over 20 children from disadvantaged families whose parents frequently work far from home and lack the means to care for them. Therefore, the town's Youth Union has organized free swimming lessons for these children. This helps provide them with a healthy and safe environment and improves their skills in preventing drowning.
In Van Han commune, the Secretary of the Youth Union, Vi Manh Cong, along with local youth, successfully encouraged 40 children to learn to swim in Pha Ly hamlet, with the support of physical education teachers from schools in the commune. It is known that the Youth Union has provided free swimming lessons to children from disadvantaged families and has maintained this since the summer of 2023, attracting a large number of children and teenagers to participate. In disadvantaged areas such as Tan Long and Hop Tien communes, the Youth Union, in coordination with school youth branches, has installed portable inflatable swimming pools to organize swimming lessons for groups of children, providing partial financial support so that children from disadvantaged backgrounds can all participate.

According to Nong Quoc Huy, Secretary of the Dong Hy District Youth Union, in addition to summer activities and youth volunteer programs focused on rural areas, in the summer of 2025, all Youth Union branches will focus on integrating youth activities to help children and teenagers in rural areas maintain weekly activities and environmental sanitation in residential areas, while also organizing swimming lessons in suitable locations to help children improve their health and enhance their skills to avoid drowning. To date, the entire district has nearly 30 swimming pools, including dozens of mobile inflatable pools installed in residential areas.
According to statistics, since the beginning of the summer vacation, the entire district has organized free swimming lessons for over 300 underprivileged children and teenagers. Most of the children received direct support and guidance from teachers at schools in the communes and towns, resulting in a systematic, friendly, and approachable learning experience. Each course lasts for 10 consecutive days, allowing the children to adapt quickly and learn to swim, overcoming their fear of water.
Offering free swimming lessons is both a beneficial summer activity and equips children with basic knowledge to prevent and combat drowning. In each lesson, in addition to learning how to swim, children also practice rescuing drowning victims and first aid skills in case of drowning. Through this class, young children will quickly learn to swim and acquire the skills to protect themselves from drowning accidents.
