
At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that Vietnam has always maintained its consistent view that expanding cooperation with the United States in the field of high technology is a strategic move, in line with the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam aims for growth based on science, technology and innovation, striving to achieve a growth rate of over 10% in the next decade. Therefore, cooperation with the United States in artificial intelligence (AI), high technology and the development of a technology ecosystem is considered appropriate and necessary.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that Vietnam has shown goodwill in trade negotiations, helping the United States achieve many favorable results for its partners. Therefore, Vietnam desires a reasonable, flexible solution, suitable for the comprehensive strategic partnership and requests the United States to consider issues such as removing Vietnam from the D1 and D3 lists restricting the export of high-tech products and recognizing Vietnam's market economy , thereby creating a foundation to promote stronger cooperation in the coming time.
The US Deputy Secretary of State expressed his pleasure in meeting Minister Nguyen Hong Dien again and highly appreciated Vietnam's initiative, especially the AI cooperation initiative. The US representative emphasized the commitment to attach importance to cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of security, energy, logistics, supply chain and production.
Deputy Minister Jacob Helberg reiterated the contents he and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien discussed in Malaysia, aiming to strengthen cooperation in leading technology, build a high-tech ecosystem and promote protection mechanisms for foundational industries, especially in the fields of semiconductors and AI.
According to Deputy Minister Jacob Helberg, Vietnam possesses many manufacturing strengths and is of strategic value to the United States in developing high-tech industries.
At the same time, Deputy Minister Jacob Helberg highly appreciated Vietnam's proposals and affirmed that he would fully report to senior leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
In particular, Deputy Minister Jacob Helberg emphasized two parallel approaches including promoting reciprocal trade agreements and expanding strategic cooperation on economic security, supply chains and technology; at the same time, he proposed building common principles as a basis for forming MOUs in each field and implementing pilot projects.
At the end of the working session, the Minister expressed his confidence in the role of Deputy Minister Jacob Helberg in promoting bilateral relations and hoped that the two sides would soon achieve specific and practical results, contributing to the stronger development of Vietnam - US relations in the coming time.
