(CTO) - On June 23, 2023, in Bac Lieu, the Vietnam Department of Fisheries ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - NN&PTNT) in collaboration with the Vietnam Fisheries Association, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province, the International Cooperation Center for Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries - ICAFIS organized the Vietnam Shrimp Forum 2023, with the theme "High-tech shrimp farming towards sustainability and efficiency".

Representatives of the Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries, Bac Lieu province, Fisheries Association, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of coastal provinces in the Mekong Delta, scientists and businesses operating in the fields of shrimp farming, processing and exporting attended.

According to the Department of Fisheries, Vietnam has many advantages to develop shrimp farming and processing of shrimp products, especially the Mekong Delta is a farming area with an annual harvest output accounting for 95% of the country's shrimp output, this is the center of shrimp processing factories. In recent years, shrimp has increasingly accounted for a large proportion of our country's total seafood export turnover. Specifically, in 2022, Vietnam's shrimp exports reached a record of 4.3 billion USD, an increase of 11% compared to 2021. Currently, Vietnam is still the 3rd largest country in the world (after India and Ecuador) in shrimp exports, with an average growth of 5% per year over the past 5 years. The main markets for Vietnamese shrimp are the US, Japan, EU, China, Korea, etc.

However, in 2023, the shrimp industry is forecast to face many difficulties due to market fluctuations, prolonged unfavorable weather, complicated shrimp diseases, and high production costs, causing shrimp farmers in many provinces in the Mekong Delta to decide to suspend their ponds...

Vietnam Shrimp Forum 2023, with the theme "High-tech shrimp farming towards sustainability and efficiency" is organized with the aim of contributing to helping the shrimp industry overcome difficulties, stabilize production, increase competitiveness in the market, maintain farming and export targets set for 2023. At the forum, delegates focused on discussing issues related to the success of high-tech shrimp farming in the difficult period of "price storm"; the situation of shrimp farming and diseases in the Mekong Delta and development orientation; water treatment solutions to prevent EHP, AHPND in high-tech shrimp farming; application of Nano technology to prevent and treat whiteleg shrimp diseases; high-tech water circulation shrimp farming process... At the same time, delegates also affirmed that high-tech shrimp farming is a model that helps manage the farming cycle in 3 main aspects: effective farm management, control of water environment indicators, and management of equipment in the pond. Applying information technology in the farming process to control water environment indicators, to record shrimp farming logs, to intelligently control equipment in the pond such as automatic feeders, water fans, oxygenators, etc. contributes to high farming efficiency, improving the quality and value of Vietnam's shrimp industry.

The high-tech white-leg shrimp farming model is developing in Soc Trang province - one of the localities developing shrimp farming in the Mekong Delta.
