Proactive response
According to the forecast of the Department of Agriculture and Environment , many forests in the province are at level IV forest fire warning (dangerous level). Therefore, the risk of forest fires, causing damage to forest resources and the environment is quite high. Therefore, the Department has directed to strengthen measures to manage and protect forests, especially forest fire prevention and control in the area. Localities have also issued documents requesting units to continue to be proactive and focus on implementing a series of forest fire prevention and control measures.
Currently, one of the important measures is to promote propaganda, education and dissemination of the Party's policies and the State's laws on fire prevention and fighting. Many forms of propaganda are deployed to raise awareness, consciousness and responsibility of all levels, sectors, organizations, businesses and people on fire prevention and fighting protection.
Checking fire fighting equipment at Vinh Loi Forestry (Vinh Loi Commune, Tan Hung District), ensuring readiness to respond in case of fire.
In order to respond promptly when forest fires occur, forest owners and commune-level People's Committees have established a Forest Fire Prevention and Control Command Committee, assigning specific tasks to each member. The force is on duty 24/7, deployed in key areas, ready to mobilize local forces to handle forest fires as soon as they occur.
In addition, authorities review and delimit key fire areas based on factors such as forest status, fires in recent years, natural conditions, socio-economic conditions, etc. Determining key forest fire areas helps to concentrate resources and deploy effective prevention measures.
Vinh Loi Forestry (Vinh Loi Commune, Tan Hung District) is under Long An Green Development Company Limited. Currently, the Forestry manages and exploits 1,137 hectares of forest (mainly cajuput). The unit is equipped with 4 specialized fire fighting machines with 800m of hose and 2 cranes to transport the fire fighting machines.
Deputy Head of the Forest Fire Prevention and Control Team of Vinh Loi Forestry Enterprise - Tran Van Don said: "The unit established a Forest Fire Prevention and Control Team consisting of 7 members, organized to take turns on duty 24/24 hours at 3 guard posts. In addition, the unit also gathered people exploiting cajuput trees and people living in the surrounding area of the Forestry Enterprise to establish 2 teams, ready to respond and support when a fire occurs."
Lang Sen Wetland Reserve (Tan Hung district) has a total forestry land area of 1,971 hectares, of which the concentrated forest area is nearly 1,054 hectares, mainly Melaleuca forests from 10 to 20 years old. Every year, dry leaves fall to form a thick layer of ground cover, which is very easy to cause fire. The unit arranges 4 posts with 4 fire watchtowers and forces and means to serve fire prevention and fighting in many key areas. Along with that, the unit regularly propagates to people living around the area to raise awareness of preventing and fighting forest fires in the dry season; has 100% of households in the area sign a commitment to fire prevention and fighting; regularly checks and operates 5 specialized fire fighting machines with more than 4,300m of hose and 11 means of transport.
Strengthen propaganda
According to information from the Provincial People's Committee, as of March 10, 2025, the total forest area of the province is 19,421.4 hectares (special-use forest 1,833.79 hectares; protection forest 2,063.94 hectares; production forest 15,523.67 hectares); forest cover is 3.89%.
Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Environment and Forestry - Trinh Hung Cuong said that the Department is currently inspecting the second phase of forest fire prevention and control work. In general, forest management units have performed well in commanding, arranging forces, means, tools and developing forest fire prevention and control plans according to the "4 on-site" motto .
“According to forecasts, from now until the end of April 2025, the heat wave will continue. Therefore, units need to focus on monitoring forests, proactively arranging means, materials, and funding to effectively carry out forest fire prevention and control work; widely disseminate information so that people can promptly report when forest fires occur,” Mr. Trinh Hung Cuong emphasized.
Strengthening forest fire prevention and control measures is extremely important to protect forests, property and people's lives. Authorities and forest owners need to step up propaganda work, calling on people, especially those living near forests, to join hands in implementing forest fire prevention and control measures, contributing to protecting forests and the living environment./.
