(VLO) In recent times, many typical and distinctive products of Vinh Long have continuously improved their quality and designs. Thereby, gradually meeting the needs of consumers, as well as "joining hands" with distributors to further expand the consumer market.

Vinh Long currently has many quality, unique products that are well received by consumers.

Many unique, quality products

Recently, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Domestic Market Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) to organize a "Conference on connecting trade between suppliers of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region with distribution enterprises", with the participation of more than 100 enterprises, cooperatives, production and distribution establishments inside and outside the province and 12 distribution units including supermarket systems, wholesale markets, and e-commerce platforms.

According to Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Tran Nhut Thanh, Vinh Long province has recognized 159 OCOP products. Of these, 100 products meet 3-star standards, 59 products meet 4-star standards. The province currently has 178 typical rural industrial products, with 145 products reaching the provincial level, 27 products reaching the regional level and 6 products reaching the national level.

The province's strong products have been registered for trademarks and brands and are present in supermarket chains, retail systems, supply and distribution in domestic and international markets such as: Phuoc Thanh IV rice, Tan Dat organic rice, Gia Hy fish sauce, Ba Khanh vermicelli...

Mr. Van Huu Tai - Owner of Mekong Spirulina Facility (Long Ho District) said that the facility is always researching and studying to improve product quality and meet consumer needs. At the same time, it constantly innovates designs and packaging to suit tastes as well as contribute to improving product quality.

“Through local industrial promotion programs and support sources, products are increasingly innovated and improved in quality. Recently, the facility has also launched a convenient dried seaweed powder product, contributing to product diversification,” said Mr. Tai.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Liet commented that the province's products have shown their quality and brand are increasingly standing firm in the market, contributing to enhancing the value of the local key products.

Vinh Long province also determined the goal of focusing on the domestic market, this is an extremely important market with the advantage of 100 million people who will be smart consumers, contributing significantly to the consumption of products of enterprises and farmers, especially the province's key agricultural and aquatic products.

Strengthen cooperation with distributors

Despite many positive results, the production and consumption chain of typical rural industrial products, OCOP products, and agricultural products has not been promoted and developed in a sustainable direction. Trade promotion activities are facing difficulties because most of the enterprises in the province are small and medium-sized enterprises, and their competitiveness in the market is still limited.

According to Pham Phuoc Trai, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tra Vinh province, OCOP products in the Mekong Delta are mostly similar, focusing on rice, seafood, and fruits. The difficulty of OCOP products is that they have not yet built a concentrated raw material area, and production is seasonal, which makes it easy for the situation of good harvest but low prices to occur.

Besides, most of the OCOP products are currently small and retail, without strong brands, so it is difficult to bring them into supermarket chains and large retail systems...

Mr. Nguyen Trong Hiep - Director of Distribution Center, Saigon Trading Corporation (Satra) said that enterprises, production facilities, and business households who want to put products into distribution at Satra must have sufficient product documents such as certificates of origin, food hygiene and safety licenses, packaging, etc. to ensure input quality before selling.

In addition, enterprises must ensure stability in output and product quality; have sufficient financial resources to make debt payments.

Meanwhile, Mr. Van Quoc Hoang - Director of Co.opmart Vinh Long Supermarket said that enterprises and cooperatives that want to bring products into modern distribution channels need to meet regulations and also need to "self-reliantly" innovate and promote products.

Accordingly, the distribution enterprise is only an intermediary unit. If the enterprise wants to sell products quickly, it is required that the production enterprise continuously improve the quality, design and do good communication. Only then can the harmony and benefits between the manufacturer and the distributor be met.

According to distributors, in the era of e-commerce development, businesses must proactively approach and participate in trade connection conferences to find partners. For OCOP products and regional specialty products, manufacturing businesses need to find partners and invest in promoting them at major commercial centers.

For OCOP products or local specialties to enter large retail systems, three factors are needed: first, the documents must be complete; second, the design must be beautiful; third, and most importantly, the quality must be stable.

Meanwhile, from the manufacturer's perspective, many enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities also want fair competition between products in the "race" to enter supermarkets.

Accordingly, there is a current situation that in order to get goods into some supermarkets, many places require high prices and large discounts for supermarkets. This is very difficult for real production facilities, making real products with reasonable prices.

Because if we want to give high discounts to the distribution system, we will inadvertently push the price up to consumers, causing difficulties for both businesses and losses for consumers. Therefore, manufacturers believe that there needs to be a fair game so that products with real quality produced domestically can reach consumers at the most reasonable price through distribution channels.
