(NLDO) - The Ministry of Transport has submitted to the Government for approval the investment plan for three national highways (QL53, QL62, and QL91B) connecting the Mekong Delta region.
The proposed upgrade for National Highway 91B is for the section from Km 2+604 ( Can Tho Bridge intersection) to Km 143+480, with an investment length of approximately 141 km.
The Ministry of Transport has just submitted to the Government for approval the investment plan for three national highways (QL53, QL62, and QL91B) connecting the region and adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta.
Accordingly, for National Highway 53, the Ministry of Transport proposed upgrading the Nga Tu Bridge, the Long Ho - Ba Si section, including the construction of a new bypass around Vung Liem and Cang Long towns, approximately 17.3 km long. The total investment length is about 41 km, passing through two provinces, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh.
This national highway has been upgraded to meet the standards of a Class III road in a flat area, with a roadbed width of 12 m, a road surface width of 11 m, and a design speed of 80 km/hour.
For National Highway 62 (QL62), the starting point is planned at the intersection with the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway. The end point is planned at Km 74+000, including the construction of a new bypass around Tan Thanh town, approximately 8 km long. The total investment length is approximately 69 km within Long An province. The route will be upgraded and improved to meet the standards of a Class III road in flat terrain, with a design speed of 80 km/hour.
The Ministry of Transport has proposed upgrading the section of National Highway 91B from Km 2+604 (Can Tho Bridge intersection) to Km 143+480, with an investment length of approximately 141 km, within Can Tho City and the provinces of Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu. The upgraded and improved section will meet the standards of a Class III road in flat terrain, with a design speed of 80 km/hour.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the preliminary total investment for the aforementioned projects is approximately 9,297 billion VND, equivalent to about 385 million USD. Of this, approximately 262 million USD is a loan from the World Bank (WB) used for items such as construction costs, pre-tax equipment costs; construction supervision and consulting costs; and contingency costs for the above-mentioned items.
The counterpart funding of approximately VND 2,975 billion will be used for items such as project management costs, construction investment consulting fees, other expenses; land clearance costs and various taxes and fees.
According to the Ministry of Transport, compared to the project proposal approved in Decision No. 646 dated June 7, 2023, of the Prime Minister, the pre-feasibility study report basically maintains the scope, scale, and route as in the approved project proposal, but the preliminary total investment has increased by approximately 2,139 billion VND. This is due to an increase in construction costs of over 956 billion VND and an increase in land acquisition costs of 840 billion VND.
The Ministry of Transport said that the investment in the project aims to gradually complete the road transport network connecting the region according to the approved planning scale, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region.
Simultaneously, it aims to improve traffic efficiency, safety, and climate change adaptation capabilities of three national highways (QL53, QL62, QL91B) connecting seven provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.
