Proposal to build Thu Thiem cinema park on Saigon river

On March 12, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction held a seminar on planning orientation along the Saigon River and Dong Nai River.

Ho Chi Minh City has a project to develop river embankments and riverside service economy and a project to develop the Saigon River corridor that has just been included in the planning to determine a sustainable ecological, cultural and economic development corridor for Ho Chi Minh City from the upstream to the Northwest - Southeast axis towards the sea.

Notably, at the seminar, the joint venture Thu Duc Maritime Joint Stock Company and Scene Plus Architecture LLC presented a project to build a Thu Thiem cinema park and a water wharf along the Saigon River.

Thu Thiem Cinema Park is proposed to be located on the Saigon River bank, from Thu Thiem tunnel to Can bridge (Thu Thiem ward, Thu Duc city) with a scale of about 5 hectares.

Thu Thiem Cinema Park with the mission of being the first central wharf of Thu Duc City integrating a multi-functional cinema theme park at the gateway to the center of Ho Chi Minh City. This area is expected to become a typical cultural - tourist - commercial destination of Ho Chi Minh City, combining historical values and cultural industry to develop waterway tourism and riverside economy both day and night.

The project's goal is to create an open studio space to recreate the setting of Saigon in the early 20th century, promote urban heritage, and serve filmmaking needs;

Developing cultural tourism spots - unique art experiences, creating a symmetrical image on both sides of the river in the central area;

Organizing festivals, cultural and film events to attract tourists and investors; Developing central wharves and anchorage areas for waterway tourism infrastructure.

The proposed Thu Thiem Cinema Park has 6 main functional areas including: "Old Saigon" film studio including the old town, tram line, market, port;

Cinema museum for display, exhibition, film archive, film premiere; Film making experience area including studio, green screen technology, makeup;

Festival - event area includes a space for live performances along the river; Central wharf, anchorage area, yacht club is a place to pick up and drop off guests, exhibitions, and organize events;

Supporting services such as restaurants, cafes, creative spaces...
