Dimash: The 'hidden' gem of world music

Talent and technique go hand in hand with fame, but Kazakhstani singer Dimash Qudaibergen has chosen a quieter path.

In Vietnam, the name Dimash is still unfamiliar, but it is that "preciousness and rarity" that makes him an icon worth exploring .

The Vietnam - Kazakhstan friendship concert, directed by People's Artist Bui Cong Duy, as part of the state visit to Kazakhstan, took place on the evening of May 6 at Kazakhstan's Astana National Opera House, with the participation of Dimash Qudaibergen.

And this December, at the National Exhibition Center, Dimash Qudaibergen reunites with Vietnamese audiences in 8Wonder Winter 2025.

Dimash's voice transcends human limits

Born in 1994 in Aktobe (Kazakhstan), Dimash Qudaibergen grew up in an artistic family. His father was a director, his mother was a singer, and Dimash started performing at the age of four.

Showing his special talent early, he studied classical vocals at the Kazakhstan National Academy of Music, and also mastered the piano, guitar and dombra - traditional musical instruments of his homeland.

From that foundation, Dimash stepped onto the international stage with a voice that left experts at a loss for words to describe: a singer with a vocal range spanning more than six octaves, something that is almost beyond the physiological limits of humans.

In the music world , only a few names like Mariah Carey or Freddie Mercury have ever been mentioned when talking about the ability to "climb" in vocals, but Dimash goes further: he not only sings high, but also controls each note with rare sophistication.

He can transition seamlessly from a powerful chest voice to a crystal clear head voice, then glide up to the whistle register, the highest human vocal range, with ease.

When needed, he sinks into a deep, resonant, powerful bass. His entire vocal range is controlled with impeccable technique, but what's more remarkable is that Dimash always uses technique to serve emotion.

Each of Dimash's songs is a story told through sound. When he sings SOS d'un Terrien en Détresse or Opera 2 , the audience often falls silent not only because of his "inhuman" technique, but because the listener feels like he is witnessing an inner monologue being voiced through music.

For Dimash, the voice is not a tool to show off, but to inspire. It is that spirit that makes the audience not feel that he is "showing off" but only "living" in the music, all physiological limits of the larynx seem to be erased, replaced by a space of creativity and emotion.

His concerts from Arnau Tour to Stranger are all elaborate, with live orchestras and grand stages, but the center is always the voice, not the visual effects.

'Precious' because of talent, 'rare' because it doesn't follow trends

In an era where music is governed by algorithms, views and formulas, Dimash chooses his own path: a combination of classical music, pop, folk and opera.

He sings in more than 13 different languages, from English, Russian, French, Chinese, Arabic to Kazakh. Each language is a way for him to show respect to the culture and audience there.

His talent was widely recognized. In 2015, Dimash won the Grand Prix at the Slavianski Bazaar Festival in Belarus, opening the way to conquer the world.

Two years later, he caused a stir when he participated in the program Singer 2017 of Hunan TV (China). This is where he surpassed a series of veteran Asian stars with his impressive voice, his performance in the competition became a fever on YouTube.

From there, Dimash's name spread throughout Asia, then to Europe and America, even though he never had a massive promotional campaign.

However, what makes Dimash truly "valuable" is his artistic attitude. He refuses to sign long-term contracts with major record labels to maintain his creative freedom.

No scandals, no tricks, Dimash only releases products that he considers worthy.

In an industry where fame often comes quickly and fades just as quickly, Dimash chooses to go slow, steady and deep.

Dimash's track record

To date, Dimash Qudaibergen has won a series of prestigious awards both domestically and internationally.

In 2014, he was awarded the State Youth Prize "Daryn" , marking the outstanding young talent of Kazakhstan.

A year later, Dimash shone at the Slavianski Bazaar Festival in Belarus , winning the Grand Prix, a trophy that paved the way for his international journey.

In 2017, the young artist continued to shock Asia when he won the runner-up position in the Singer 2017 program (China), where his six-octave voice helped him conquer millions of audiences.

In the following years, Dimash continuously received major titles such as Kazakhstani Artist of the Year 2021 , People's Artist of Kazakhstan (2023), the highest honor awarded by the President of Kazakhstan, and the Karic Brothers Foundation Award (Serbia, 2023) for international cultural contributions.

In 2024, he was honored as People's Favorite - Cultural Figure of the Year , and in 2025 continued to make his mark with the title of People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic .

This series of achievements not only affirms Dimash's talent but also shows the global influence of an artist who is absolutely loyal to pure art.
