The workshop "Connecting Asian vision - Creating an era of prosperity" took place today, April 19 in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting many financial and securities experts from Vietnam and internationally.
Don't panic, increase cash, ready for stock market opportunities
"The past few weeks have been difficult for investors, but that's just part of the stock market, sometimes it doesn't go up forever, it fluctuates. However, overall, the Vietnamese market is still more stable than some other markets, including the US," said Matthew Smith, research director at Yuanta Vietnam Securities Company.
According to Mr. Matthew Smith, last year, Vietnamese stocks fluctuated around 1,200 - 1,300 points. They started to fluctuate strongly since President Donald Trump announced a reciprocal tax rate of up to 46% on Vietnam.
With Vietnam's capacity, "there is no need to be too pessimistic". However, stock investors need to have an appropriate strategy when allocating their investment portfolio, especially during the 90-day tax deferral period (deadline July 9) and thereafter.
Mr. Matthew Smith believes that from now until July 9, the stock market will fluctuate within a certain range, with low liquidity. Investors should be patient, cautious, and not panic. For those with financial potential, if they find a favorite stock and the price has hit "bottom", they can allocate it with a relative proportion.
Mr. Yen Chen-Hui - Director of Analysis, Vice President of Research Center of Yuanta Investment Consulting (YIC) - raised the question: "Being greedy when others are fearful is something many people know. But how should we be "greedy"?".
In the next three months, investors must manage their portfolios well. In the midst of many uncertainties in the general economy , it is necessary to diversify assets, with at least 50% deposited in savings, bonds, gold, etc.
"The second quarter of this year is uncertain, but after that the situation will be clearer. The important thing is to survive the second quarter and have cash to retain the right to buy shares when needed," Mr. Yen shared.
