Demi Moore received a salary of 12.5 million USD for a role nearly 30 years ago.

In a conversation on The New York Times podcast The Interview to promote her film The Substance , actress Demi Moore recalled how people tried to put her down as soon as she started making the same amount of money as male actors.

Demi Moore said: "I was like, when I was the highest paid actress at the time, people wanted to take me down? I don't take it personally. I think anyone who was in the position of being the first person to get paid the same amount would probably be hurt. But because I did a movie about the world of strippers, showing off my body, I was very embarrassed."

Demi Moore married movie star Bruce Willis in 1987, and they were together until 2000. At the time she was paid a record fee for Striptease , Bruce Willis was also famous for his many action movies. Although she never compared her career to her husband's, she knew how much he earned from his films and thought it was only fair that she earned the same amount for Striptease .

"It's not about comparing myself to Bruce. Yes, I know exactly how much he gets paid. Why shouldn't I get paid the same amount? If I do the same amount of work, why shouldn't I?", the actress expressed.

In a recent article in Variety , Demi Moore said that getting a record-breaking salary for her role in Striptease " was meaningful because it wasn't just about me, it was about changing the playing field for all women. But the narrative quickly became, 'Oh, she got paid a lot of money to play a stripper.' That really hurt my head, but at the same time, I understand that anyone who's a pioneer is going to get hit."

The new film starring Demi Moore, The Substance , directed by Coralie Fargeat, starring Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid... will be released on September 20.
