(NADS) - Moot Court Competition, also known as Mock Trial, has long been a popular activity worldwide. This is not only a useful playground but also a valuable opportunity for law students to experience and practice the role of litigators in a real, hypothetical context before an arbitration panel. Here, the competing teams will prepare legal documents, argue and defend before an arbitration panel of prestigious legal experts.
Continuing the success of previous years, on September 29, 2024, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, the Vietnam Society of International Law (VSIL) coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City University of Law to organize the final round of the "National Moot Court Competition on International Law on Foreign Direct Investment 2024". The event attracted special attention from experts in the legal field and the student community.
In particular, the event was attended by many experts and prominent leaders: Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Ba Son - Honorary President of the Vietnam International Law Society; Associate Professor Dr. Tran Viet Dung - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law; Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Lecturer of the Faculty of International Law; and MSc. Nguyen Dao Phuong Thuy - Lecturer of the Faculty of International Law, Deputy Secretary of the University Youth Union.
This year's competition is also highly appreciated thanks to the participation of a highly professional jury, including: Ms. Vu Thi Thuy Quynh - Deputy Director of the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment ; Lawyer Leif Dustin Schneider; Lawyer Logan Leung and other international law experts.
Starting in early August 2024, the competition has gone through many exciting rounds with the participation of 7 teams from 5 law universities across the country, including: Diplomatic Academy, Foreign Trade University, Hanoi, Hanoi National University of Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law and University of Economics and Finance.
Each team consists of 4-5 members, of which two main members will present arguments and defend before the arbitration panel, while the remaining members will participate in research and supporting documents. The preliminary round witnessed the careful preparation of the teams with quality litigation articles, followed by intense debates in the roles of plaintiff and defendant. Through dramatic competitions, the best teams advanced to the final round.
The competition is not only about litigation, but also an opportunity for students to practice their ability to research deeply into international investment law, critical thinking skills, write essays in English and develop legal thinking. The winning team will represent Vietnam at the international FDI Moot in Germany in November 2024, with expenses fully sponsored by the organizing committee.
In the final round, the two best teams, Team Crawford and Team Winiarski, presented professional arguments. Both teams took turns playing the roles of plaintiff and defendant, responding with sharp arguments, demonstrating a deep understanding of international legal issues related to the environment and foreign direct investment. The competition atmosphere became lively and dramatic with challenging questions from the judges, making each argument more attractive.
At the end of the competition, the Winiarski team from the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi won the first prize. The second prize went to the Crawford team from the Diplomatic Academy, and the two third prizes were awarded to the Skubiszewski team from the Diplomatic Academy and the Basdevant team from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
The "National Moot Court Competition on International Law on Foreign Direct Investment 2024" has officially ended with great success, not only in creating a useful playground for students, but also contributing to promoting the training and development of legal skills for future generations of lawyers.
