A solid support for people in the border area

Through specific and practical actions, over the years, the movement "Skillful Mass Mobilization" has always been given special attention and widely implemented by officers and soldiers of Huong Lap Border Guard Station. Thereby, it has contributed to helping people in border areas develop their economy and sustainably reduce poverty. The station is also a solid "support", consolidating the trust of ethnic minorities, building a strong people's position, creating a combined strength in the cause of protecting national sovereignty and border security.

Huong Lap Border Guard Station is assigned to manage and protect a 28.588 km long border, 16 border markers, 5 border posts with Laos in the area of ​​2 communes Huong Lap and Huong Viet, including 9 villages with 781 households/3,522 people. Since its establishment in 1955, Huong Lap Border Guard Station has always done a good job of building a strong all-people border defense posture.

In particular, the officers and soldiers of the unit always stand side by side with the people to develop the economy and ensure social security. Captain of the Mass Mobilization Team of Huong Lap Border Guard Station, Lieutenant Ho Van Quy, said that in order for mass mobilization movements to go deep, the Party Committee and the command of the station regularly coordinate with the communes to build the movement "All people participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation".

Assign specific officers and soldiers to be in charge of each village and hamlet to help people change their crop and livestock structure appropriately; promote propaganda and legaleducation , and mobilize people to actively participate in building new rural areas...

Specifically, in the period from 2021-2025, the unit mobilized benefactors to support the construction of 13 "Shelters for the poor in the border area"; 1 classroom at the Tri village kindergarten; organized the "Helping children go to school" program to present 200 gifts and 50 bicycles to students in Huong Lap commune and hundreds of gifts of essential necessities; built 2 projects including: domestic water tanks, bathrooms, and closed toilets for people in Ta Pang and Cu Bai villages; 1 "Border light" project in Ta Pang village; 1 welcome gate in Cu Bai village; 13 wells for the villages. Along with that, support tens of thousands of breeds such as: chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, fish and 300 kg of various plant varieties for people to develop the economy and stabilize their lives. The total support value is more than 8 billion VND.

In addition, maintain diplomatic exchanges with Lao units during bilateral patrols, visit and give gifts on holidays and Tet; organize student exchange programs, "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" for over 600 Lao children with hundreds of gifts in kind and scholarships with a total value of over 1 billion VND; maintain well the activities of twinning stations, stations and residential areas on both sides of the border.

For the area under its management, the unit regularly coordinates with local authorities and benefactors to annually organize the program "Border Spring - Warming the hearts of the villagers" from 2020 to present, giving away over 2,000 Tet gifts and 600 pairs of banh chung to families in especially difficult circumstances with a total amount of over 1 billion VND.

Sponsored 7 children in the program "Helping children go to school" and 2 children "Adopted children of border guards" with an annual support of about 30 million VND. In addition, the unit actively implemented propaganda models, mobilized to maintain environmental hygiene, prevent social evils, and popularize the law such as: Model "Border youth say no to school drugs", "Border lessons", "One question, one answer per week"...

Visiting the family of Mrs. Ho Thi Vai in A Xoc Cha Ly village (Huong Lap commune), we can see her joy when living in a spacious house that was donated. Sharing the special difficult housing situation of Mrs. Vai, being old and weak, living alone, in 2019, officers and soldiers of Huong Lap Border Guard Station called for support to build her a "Border Love" house worth 100 million VND. "Not only supporting money to build a house, the soldiers also took turns with the locals to help with labor to complete this house. Because I live right in front of the unit gate, every day the officers and soldiers of the station support 3 meals according to the army's regime, I am very grateful to the border guards", Mrs. Vai shared.

Deputy Political Commissar of Huong Lap Border Guard Station, Lieutenant Colonel Ho Nhu Quan said that, identifying "The station is home, the border is homeland, ethnic people are blood brothers", with the motto "4 together", the unit has regularly organized for officers and soldiers to stay close to the base, participate in building civil works, support people in harvesting crops, preventing natural disasters, searching and rescuing, etc.

In particular, during the flood in 2020, when the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch connecting the center of Huong Hoa district to the two communes of Huong Viet and Huong Lap suffered serious landslides, completely isolating the area and making life difficult for the people. In this situation, the unit mobilized all its forces to participate in clearing large amounts of mud, rocks, and fallen trees in most of the vulnerable areas in the two communes with more than 300 working days.

Directly call on agencies, units, and philanthropists to support necessities, books, clothes, and cash for households with a total value of over 2 billion VND. Use all public housing of the unit to support households in dangerous areas to take shelter from storms and floods...

“It is through such practical actions that the green-uniformed soldiers have become a solid bridge between the Party, the State and the People, accompanying the border compatriots to ensure social security, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and contribute to building an increasingly solid people's border defense posture in the border areas of the Fatherland,” Lieutenant Colonel Quan affirmed.

According to the Chairman of Huong Lap Commune People's Committee, Ho Thi Ven, the active coordination of Huong Lap Border Guard Station in building and implementing programs, models and movements has brought about practical results, contributing to the local socio-economic development, bringing a new life to the people in the border area. The border guard force has accompanied the commune to do a better job of mobilizing ethnic minorities to build a new cultural lifestyle, eliminate bad customs, preserve and promote national cultural identity.
