Dien Bien: Funeral and burial of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos

NDO - On the morning of May 26, at Tong Khao Martyrs Cemetery (Thanh Nua Commune, Dien Bien District), the People's Committee of Dien Bien Province held a memorial service and burial ceremony for 7 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos, the second phase of the 2024-2025 dry season.

These are martyrs' remains that do not have enough elements to identify, and were handed over by the Military Region 2 Martyrs' Remains Search and Collection Team according to military protocol on the morning of May 25.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the National Steering Committee for Searching, Collecting and Identifying Martyrs' Remains (Steering Committee 515); representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs ; Department of Meritorious People; General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; leaders of Dien Bien province, leaders of departments, branches, armed forces and a large number of cadres, people, students in Dien Bien province.

Officers and soldiers of the armed forces of Dien Bien province respectfully offer incense to pay tribute to heroic martyrs.

In the eulogy at the memorial service and burial of the martyrs' remains, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province Lo Van Cuong expressed gratitude for the martyrs' sacrifices, which contributed to enhancing the tradition of solidarity and attachment between the two Parties and States of Vietnam and Laos.

Comrade Lo Van Cuong affirmed that during the years of fighting in the neighboring country, Vietnamese volunteer soldiers united with the Lao revolutionary army and people to promote the tradition of steadfastness and indomitability, overcoming all difficulties and hardships, considering the revolutionary cause of the neighboring country of Laos as that of their own country and Fatherland.

The great dedication and sacrifice of the martyrs is a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, demonstrating the burning desire for independence, freedom and happiness for the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos. The names and achievements of the soldiers will live forever in the history of the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

Comrade Lo Van Cuong also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Lao Party, State and revolutionary people; thanked the Search and Collection Team of Martyrs' Remains of Military Region 2 for upholding the spirit of comradeship, searching day and night, collecting and bringing the martyrs' remains back to the Fatherland safely and thoughtfully over long distances.

It is known that during the recent search, the identity of a martyr from Ha Giang was determined. Therefore, immediately after the memorial service at Tong Khao Martyrs Cemetery, officers and soldiers of the Search and Collection Team of Martyrs' Remains of Military Region 2 left for Ha Giang to perform the ceremony of handing over the martyrs' remains to the martyrs' families and Ha Giang province to organize a memorial service and burial in their hometown.
