On the afternoon of April 14, the film crew of “Detective Kien: The Headless Case” had its premiere for Hanoi audiences at the Opera House. The film was inspired by the novel “Lake of Resentment” by writer Hong Thai, and is a psychological, detective, historical drama with elements of spirituality and horror.

This is a spin-off of the movie “ The Last Wife” that continues the story of the two characters Kien and Hai Man, and will be officially released from April 30, with early screenings from April 25.

The main character Detective Kien is played by Quoc Huy. He said that in the film, he will solve a series of mysterious and gruesome cases of people being murdered and beheaded in a village, thereby discovering many dark secrets. Director Victor Vu said that this side story was "tailored" for Quoc Huy, because he has an excellent demeanor and is especially suitable for a period detective film in his imagination.

“Detective Kien: Headless Case” is the 18th film, marking 20 years of Victor Vu's filmmaking career. He is familiar to Vietnamese audiences with the psychological genre, mixing many sensational elements such as "Scandal: Secret of the Red Carpet" (2012), "Bloody Heart" (2014), recently the series "Red Flower Farm" on K+, the film "The Last Wife" (2023) earned more than 100 billion VND.

Also at the sharing session, the cast including Doan Minh Anh, Dinh Ngoc Diep, People's Artist My Uyen, and Meritorious Artist Xuan Trang also shared their memories on the set. Notably, actress Minh Anh burst into tears, correcting the information that she was "kicked out" of the set.

The child star was emotional when recalling, saying that at that time she was not fired but only left after the scene ended, but felt sad and cried because she felt the director was not satisfied with her.

“At that time, there was a scene that I had to film over and over again. As an actor, no one wants to see the director's disappointed face, and as a new actor, I put a lot of pressure on myself to do my best. I cried a lot. After the incident, that day, Victor asked me out to talk privately to give him some advice, and Diep also encouraged me a lot, helping me point out my shortcomings,” the 2008-born actor shared.

In the film, she plays Nga, the niece of Hai Man (played by Dinh Ngoc Diep), who plays an important role leading to the "twist" of the film.

Also at the launch event, Minh Anh said that although she is famous and joined showbiz at a young age, she has not neglected her formal studies. She said she often studies after filming is over during the day, and is supported a lot by teachers and friends at school. Minh Anh said she will finish high school and go to university in parallel with her entertainment career.

Dinh Ngoc Diep - wife of director Victor Vu also shared about the pressure in the project. The 41-year-old actress said she faced a lot of stress in her role as a producer for the film. In addition, because she also played a supporting role, Dinh Ngoc Diep said she had to learn to control her emotions and be ready to take on a role at any time. With her husband's encouragement and constant support, she considers him the biggest motivation in the film industry.

When asked about Minh Ha - director Ly Hai's wife and producer of many "Lat Mat" films, Dinh Ngoc Diep had many compliments for her colleague. "I admire Minh Ha not only for her revenue and self-affirmation in the profession, but also for creating a creative space for her husband," she shared.

Also at the event, the health condition of the male director born in 1975 was mentioned. Responding to reporters, Dinh Ngoc Diep said that her husband had a congenital heart disease and had to undergo 4 stent surgeries over the past many years. Having been on the brink of death, Victor Vu said that what he worried about most was how to arrange a life for his wife and children in the future. Therefore, after going through this, he felt much more precious and loving towards his family.

On April 30, “Detective Kien: The Headless Case” and “Flip Side 8: The Sun’s Arms” by Ly Hai-Minh Ha will be released in theaters nationwide. Both films do not focus on stardom but are about two opposite emotional streams.

Because theaters often focus on showing the most potential film, it is predicted that the box office this time will be strongly divided and the level of competition will increase./.
