The trading session on May 26 surprised investors when the VN-Index dropped sharply right at the opening of trading, losing more than 20 points and breaking the 1,300 point mark.
However, bottom-fishing demand and some side information spreading among investors caused the whole market to reverse and increase dramatically. VN-Index closed the session up more than 18 points, to 1,332.51 points. From the bottom of the day, this index jumped up 40 points.
Market liquidity improved significantly compared to the previous session, when the total transaction value on all three exchanges reached more than VND25,000 billion. On the HoSE alone, liquidity reached more than VND22,100 billion - an increase of more than VND5,300 billion compared to the previous session.
Notably, the afternoon session's increase was driven by positive contributions from industrial real estate, construction, textile, seafood, and seaport stocks. Many stocks hit the ceiling, such as GVR, CKG, IDJ, SZC, IDI, ASM, VGT, TNG, TCM, VHC, ANV, etc. This surprised many investors because this group of stocks has fluctuated very little recently.
According to some securities companies, the highlight of this session came from textile and seafood stocks, which all turned purple (hit the ceiling) due to positive information about tariffs. Specifically, textile and seafood stocks increased after a statement by US President Donald Trump saying that the tariff policies were not intended to support the textile and garment industry, but to focus on promoting the production of high-tech products and military equipment domestically. The US President said he did not want to focus on T-shirts or shoes, but aimed at chips, computers, etc.

With the above statement, countries with large textile exports to the US can benefit. The US is the main export market for Vietnamese textile exports.
With the stock market maintaining a high level of over 1,300 points, experts say the year-end stock market outlook is very bright.
Speaking at a financial talkshow with the theme "Stock market fluctuations in the second half of 2025" organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper on May 26, Mr. Huynh Huu Phuoc, Director of Individual Clients and Director of Can Tho Branch - Rong Viet Securities Company (VDSC), said that the bottom of the market was established in the decline session in early April.
VN-Index also continued to test the bottom for the second time, falling to about 1,130 points and then recovering very quickly in a V-shape. Therefore, from now until July 8, when there is official information about the tariff level after negotiations, the market will fully reflect it in the price.

"VN-Index is forecast to fluctuate in the range of 1,040 - 1,380 points from now until the end of the year, the rest depends on the market's reaction. With the positive growth in the first quarter of 2025 business results of enterprises, and VDSC's forecast that in the second quarter of this year, the profit picture will still be positive based on the low base of the same period last year. With the tariff policy, export orders in April and May will be boosted to take advantage before the tax is imposed. Thus, the biggest risk has been formed, the story of expectation is there and positive" - Mr. Phuoc acknowledged.
Mr. Dao Minh Chau, Deputy Director of the Center for Analysis and Investment Consulting - SSI Securities Company, said that the recovery period is very strong, over 20%, in which many stocks increased by 40-50%, even doubled, VN-Index needs time to slow down and accumulate. The market may fluctuate in the next 1-2 months when there is uncertain information related to the US tariff policy; the possibility of recession of some economies in the world.
"However, the level of shaking, if it happens, will not be too worrying because in April 2025 there was a strong collapse and the tariff information has been reflected, businesses have had time to prepare to respond" - Mr. Chau commented.
