In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has developed an enrollment plan with a total enrollment target of 70,070 students for 115 public high schools. Of which, 110 schools under the Department of Education and Training have 68,830 enrollment targets and 5 schools under universities have 1,240 enrollment targets. The 2025-2026 school year is a year of significant reduction in the number of 9th grade students with 27,330 students (about 23.5%) compared to previous years. As a result, the competitive pressure to enter public high schools is expected to decrease compared to previous school years.
To prepare for the 10th grade exam, the HCM City Department of Education and Training plans to plan 160 exam sites (including 148 regular exam sites and 10 specialized exam sites) with 4,424 rooms. Of these, 4,144 are regular 10th grade exam rooms with 24 candidates/room, and each exam site will have 3 additional spare rooms.
Ho Chi Minh City also mobilized 13,272 teachers to be exam invigilators and 2,070 staff, security guards, police officers, etc. to work at the exam sites. The health sector will facilitate priority emergency care and health care for candidates; ensure accurate and prompt certification of illness and injury if they occur during the exam; provide ambulances and be ready to promptly support candidates in case of poisoning. The Department of Health will coordinate with the Department of Food Safety to review, isolate, handle and identify the source of poisoning; ensure that there is no impact on exam sites and candidates...
The Department of Food Safety is also requested to develop a plan to coordinate with medical facilities and assign staff to be on duty during the exam period to promptly respond to food safety incidents; ensuring effective prevention of food poisoning risks that could affect the health of candidates.
According to the plan, from May 26 to 5 p.m. on May 28 at the latest, candidates will receive registration forms. By 5 p.m. on June 5 at the latest, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will announce the list of candidates eligible for direct admission to grade 10. From June 8 to 25, the department will organize the marking of exams, summarize the marking work and compare exam results.
