
Salinity levels in rivers throughout the province are increasing.
Specifically, on the Vam Co Dong River: Salinity is 1.0 g/l up to the Ba Xieng sluice gate, Can Duoc district, Long An province (1.0 g/l), about 43 km from the Soai Rap river mouth (compared to the same period in 2022-2023 according to the Lunar calendar, salinity exceeds the Xom Bo sluice gate, Can Duoc district (1.1 g/l), about 40 km from the Soai Rap river mouth; compared to the same period in 2020 according to the Lunar calendar, it exceeds the Doi Ma sluice gate, Can Duoc district (1.5 g/l), about 47 km from the Soai Rap river mouth).
On the Vam Co Tay River: Salinity of 1.0 g/l has not yet appeared (compared to the same period in 2022-2023 according to the Lunar calendar, salinity has not yet appeared on the Vam Co Tay River; compared to the same period in 2020 according to the Lunar calendar, salinity is close to the Cho Giua sluice gate, Chau Thanh district (0.8 g/l), about 50 km from the Soai Rap river mouth).
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the Provincial Irrigation Works Management Center to coordinate with the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Agricultural Service Centers of the southern districts and Tan An City to regularly monitor salinity levels, develop reasonable operating plans for main sluice gates, inspect and plan for the repair and replacement of leaking or damaged sluice gates to prevent saltwater intrusion and ensure water supply for agricultural production and daily life.
